GOP senator demands colleagues commit 'never to sabotage' fellow Republicans
Fed up with reports that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made remarks in his upcoming book critical of Donald Trump, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) took to social media Thursday to call on prospective Senate GOP leaders to weigh in and “commit never to sabotage Republican candidates.”
“McConnell’s attacks on Donald Trump & Rick Scott are indefensible,” Lee began in a series of posts he wrote on X. “Those running for Senate GOP leadership posts need to weigh in on this & commit never to sabotage Republican candidates & colleagues — particularly those who are less than two weeks away from a close election.”
He added that it was “incomprehensive” that McConnell’s super PAC “withheld campaign support from Ted Cruz and Rick Scott this election season.”

The GOP Senate in-fighting began after reports emerged that McConnell referred to Trump as a “sleazeball,” “narcissist” and “stupid as well as being ill-tempered,” in a new biography slated for release this month, according to Politico.
The publication notes that “it’s not the first time the GOP leader has criticized the former president, who he is nevertheless supporting as the party’s nominee in November. But it is some of his most scathing commentary to date.”
“We must have clarity from the candidates running to replace McConnell on where they stand on these attacks,” Lee continued in his social media posts. “They must be clear on how they plan to lead the conference, and on the role of its members. The Senate Republican leader is supposed to help Republicans, not undermine them. Sadly, we’ve had too much of the latter. That must end now.”
