‘Based on a True Story’ Season 2 trailer: The Westside Ripper is back… but is it Matt?
Being a parent is killer — and in more ways than one for the Bartletts on “Based on a True Story.”
On Thursday, Peacock dropped the trailer for Season 2 of the comedic thriller, which finds Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan (Chris Messina) three months into parenthood and seemingly taking a hiatus from their podcast. Tory (Liana Liberato), Ava’s sister, gets engaged to Matt (Tom Bateman), who is apparently “healing” from his murdering ways. Or is he? The Westside Ripper is killing again, but Matt insists it’s not him.
“If you’re not killing these people, then who is?” Ava asks.
“That’s what I want to know,” he says.
The series follows Ava, a real estate agent and Nathan, a tennis pro-turned-coach, who suspect Tom, their plumber, is the Westside Ripper serial killer and decide to start a podcast with him to exploit America’s true crime obsession and solve their money problems. Season 1 ended with Tory and Matt hooking up while Ava and Nathan buried her friend Ruby (Priscilla Quintana), whom Matt had killed. As they were cleaning up her blood at their beach house, Ruby’s husband Simon (Aaron Staton) walked in. In June, Cuoco told Gold Derby the Season 1 cliffhangers will ” be answered actually very quickly” before getting into the crux of the season.
SEE Why Kaley Cuoco and ‘Based on a True Story’ are a perfect match
“Ava’s trying to be a mom now. She’s trying to be a good mom and focus on the baby and nothing else, but she realizes very quickly that — she loves her child — but there’s still that side where she wants to be living on the edge and watching all the things and the podcast and she wants to get back in that lifestyle,” the Emmy nominee teased. “And Matt is still crazy. He’s gonna go off on his own adventure. Nathan wants to bring the tennis back and he wants to be a star again, and they’re kinda figuring that out. Life just changes with a baby. And because Matt is in their lives, there are some babysitting scenes.”
“Physical” creator Annie Weisman replaced creator Craig Rosenberg as showrunner this season. Like the first, Season 2 of “Based on a True Story” will consist of eight episodes. All eight will drop on Thursday, Nov. 21.
