‘The Agency’ trailer: Michael Fassbender leads all-star cast in spy thriller from producer George Clooney
Nothing is personal.
On Thursday, Paramount+ with Showtime revealed the first trailer for “The Agency,” the upcoming spy thriller from producer George Clooney and director Joe Wright with Michael Fassbender in the lead role.
Fassbender plays Martian, a “covert CIA agent, ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station. When the love he left behind reappears, romance reignites. His career, his real identity and his mission are pitted against his heart; hurling them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.”
Jodie Smith-Turner plays Fassbender’s former romantic partner, while Jeffrey Wright and Richard Gere star as CIA middle managers. Other members of the cast include Katherine Waterston, John Magaro, Alex Reznik, Andrew Brooke, Harriet Sansom Harris, India Fowler, Saura Lightfoot-Leon, and Reza Brojerdi. Hugh Bonneville is a guest star. Recurring cast includes Adam Nagaitis, Ambreen Razia, Bilal Hasna, David Harewood, Kurt Egyiawan, Ray BLK, Sabrina Wu, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor.
Like many cable dramas of the last two decades, “The Agency” is based on an international series, this one called “Le Bureau des Legendes.” That show centered “on the daily life and missions of agents within France’s principal external security service.” Its primary focus was on the “Bureau of Legends,” a group “responsible for training and handling deep-cover agents on long-term missions in areas with French interests. Living under false identities for years, these agents’ missions are to identify and recruit good intelligence sources.”
“Le Bureau des Legendes” was created by Eric Rochant.
In addition to Clooney and his frequent producing partner Grant Heslov, “The Agency” was executive produced by the show’s writers, Jez and John-Henry Butterworth. The duo wrote all 10 episodes of “The Agency.” Filmmaker Joe Wright is the director of the first two episodes and an executive producer as well.
Paramount+ With Showtime will premiere “The Agency” on November 29.
