Yanmar / Amercia’s Cup Partnership: New Heights in Sustainability
How the America’s Cup is reaching new levels of sustainability with Yanmar…
Over the past few months, we’ve watched AC75s and AC40s racing in the 37th America’s Cup and the inaugural Puig Women’s and Youth America’s Cup. This prestigious competition, with a long history of endurance, excitement and teamwork, has seen generations of sailors pushing themselves and their boats to achieve new heights in technology, and new heights in human ability.
Sponsoring this year’s America’s Cup is the manufacturing company, and world leader in marine engines and technology, Yanmar. At the heart of the America’s Cup, is believing in the power of people to create new technologies and possibilities. This is also a core value at Yanmar, who place great importance on the potential of people to reach for new heights. At Yanmar, this concept is called “Hanasaka”, a Japanese word which translates as “to make flowers bloom”, embodying the idea of letting people bloom. The partnering of the America’s Cup with Yanmar has created a space for exciting advances in technology, design, and mechanisms within the marine industry, which a key focus on sustainability.
It is clear the success of this Yanmar / America’s Cup partnership is due to the depth of their alignment on sustainability, and joint emphasis using nature to convert forces into energy and excel in human abilities.
The day before the 37th America’s Cup final commenced, Yanmar hosted a press conference where Grant Dalton, CEO of the America’s Cup and for the continued Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand, commented:
‘Thank you for the support of Yanmar… this is the fourth edition that Yanmar has been involved with the America’s Cup, and this one is a little bit different because… when the conversations started back up again in 2021, we started talking about sustainability. The drive obviously with the marine industry is to make sure there is sustainability, and what we were doing, or are doing, with hydrogen. So there was an easy conversation that went on very quickly with what Yanmar was trying to do in sustainability in the future, and what obviously as the leading arrow head of the sport, what we were trying to do was effectively change the world. So thank you for supporting us and supporting the America’s Cup. It’s a great partnership…’
