Tottenham star explains why he purposely delayed his comeback
Richarlison has made a confession about his latest injury rehabilitation as the Tottenham man looks to get his career back on track.
Injury nightmare for Richarlison
Richarlison has been unable to remain fit throughout this calendar year, picking up different kinds of injuries that have kept him sidelined for lengthy periods.
The last time that the Brazilian had a sustained run in the starting eleven around the turn of this year, he was on fire in front of goal.
He will be hoping that his injury woes are now behind him so that he can showcase his quality on the pitch and win back a place in Ange Postecoglou’s starting eleven.
Richarlison’s injury admission
The striker has confessed that it was not easy to be out of the game for so long and that he is now keen to get some minutes under his belt.
He said Gazeta Esportiva following Tottenham’s win over West Ham: “I felt good, it was a little dull, I hadn’t been in for a while. It’s normal, now I have to keep working hard.
“I’ve worked hard these months, now it’s time to recover my football. Tomorrow (Sunday) there’s training, I hope to play a few more minutes on Thursday.”
The 27-year-old explained that he could have returned before the last international break but instead decided to exercise caution and take things slow.
He added: “We could come back before the FIFA Date, we got together, together with my physio who came from Brazil, so we preferred to wait a little. We chose to train more. Now, I’m prepared, I managed to recover well, thank God, Everything went well.”
Will Richarlison start against Alkmaar?
It was revealed by GiveMeSport a couple of days ago that Spurs plan on ‘forensically monitoring’ Richarlison’s progress over the coming weeks and months as they are eager not to antagonise the issues his body has faced.
The report claimed that Postecoglou does not want to over-burden him with too many minutes right now and is planning on slowly easing him into action. If that is true, then the former Everton man is unlikely to find a place in the starting eleven for Tottenham’s Europa League clash against Alkmaar.
However, the very same publication today revealed that Postecoglou may even hand Richarlison his first start of the season this evening in Europe – so things seem to be up in the air.
