Man who drove wrong way down M6 killing dad and children was RAF jet pilot trainer
A man who drove the wrong way down the M6 killing a father, his partner and his two children was a former RAF jet pilot trainer.
Officers received news that Richard Woods, a 40-year-old from Cambridgeshire, was travelling southbound on the northbound carriageway of the M6 in Cumbria on October 15.
Police were on route to the scene when further calls were received reporting that the Skoda which Woods had been driving had collided head on with a Toyota.
Jaroslaw Rossa, 42, his sons Filip, 15, and Dominic, seven, and passenger Jada McEnroe, 33, who were all in the Toyota, were killed.
Jada’s son, 7-year-old Arran Martin, the final person in the vehicle, is currently fighting for his life in a coma at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. His father has been waiting by Arran’s bedside ‘day and night’ hoping he wakes up.
Woods was also pronounced dead the scene.
The Skoda driver was reportedly a former ‘RAF Tornado pilot,’ according to The Sun. He was in-charge of the F-35B Lightning flight simulator at RAF Mahram, Norfolk, at the time of his death.
He had apparently been ‘under a lot of stress’ in the weeks prior to his death.
The Sun also heard that there is ‘an assumption he did it deliberately while his mind was unbalanced.’
The families of the four Toyota passengers paid tribute to their lost loved ones.
Filip and Dominic’s mum, Kamila, said: ‘We are heartbroken at the passing of our beloved angels – Filip and Dominic.
‘Filip was very intelligent, sensitive and full of love. We will never forget his smile, open arms, and the words ‘tuli, tuli’ (hugs, hugs). He was fascinated by computer games but also incredibly good at chess.
‘He loved chemistry and dreamed of studying at the University of Glasgow.
‘Dominic was always smiling, very resolute and sociable. He was extremely caring, always thinking of others first, and the first to help if someone was in trouble. Always surrounded by a group of friends of all ages.
‘He loved dinosaurs and Pokemon, but most of all he loved penguins and dreamed of adopting one. Our lives will never be the same again.’
Jade McEnroe’s parents paid tribute to their daughter: ‘Our beloved daughter Jade, you are so loved, and we will miss you every day. You are a very loved Mummy to Arran.’
And Wagamama chief executive, Thomas Heier, where Jaroslaw Rossa was an employee, said: ‘His warmth, dedication and kindness are the characteristics of Jaroslaw that will stay with the team long after his passing.
‘We send our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family, which we know he was deeply devoted to.
‘Jaroslaw, you will live in our hearts and minds forever.’
