Hi, there is a mixed pair at my club who have course handicaps of around 4 (him) and 54(her). So as a mixed foursome pair they play off say 27.
On the fairway, she has been facing their second shot 100 yards from the pin, with a creek about 70 yards ahead. She putts the ball 2 feet left to his preferred pitching distance and he plays up to the pin for 3.
On a par 3, with deep rough for the first 50 yards uphill, she taps the ball one foot on the tee, and he plays the second shot to the green .
As long as she is playing a stroke, in the sense of moving the ball forward, this appears to be legitimate. But most other couples in the competition feel it is against the spirit of the rules and that she ought to be playing a shot if some sort. It is surely only viable to waste shots due to her large handicap. Obviously people lay up before obstacles which is arguably what is happening here. There are some comments in the rules about the spirit of the game. is there anything you can see which would shed light on whether this practice should be discouraged as someone may want to approach the committee for a ruling
