‘Survivor 47’ episode 6 recap: Who was voted out in ‘Feel the FOMO’? [LIVE BLOG]

Heading into the sixth episode of “Survivor 47,” Gata had just lost its second tribe member of the game, Anika Dhar, in a huge blindside. That left Gata and Lavo both at four people apiece going into the impending merge, while Tuku still had a numbers advantage at five. So who ended up having their torch snuffed on Wednesday night?

8:00 p.m. – “Previously on ‘Survivor’!” In the fifth episode, the first ever “Survivor Social Hour” reward challenge gave the winners (Caroline, Kyle, Rachel, Sam, Sue, Teeny, Tiyana) the chance to mingle, share secrets and eat hot dogs. Later at the immunity challenge, Tuku and Lavo shared in the victory, sending Gata back to tribal council for the first time since the premiere. While Anika and Rachel were convinced that Andy was going home, Sam and Sierra decided to shake things up and bring Andy along with them as their third. Thirteen people remain. Who will be going home next?

8:02 p.m. – When Gata got back to camp, Sierra wanted to be the first to speak in order to apologize to Rachel for leaving her out of the vote. Sam and Andy also apologized because they, too, don’t want Rachel to feel left out, but they all had to because of how close she was to Anika. Rachel still felt betrayed and was shocked that her version of reality where Andy was at the bottom of the tribe was not true. For Sam’s part, he explained in a confessional that he didn’t use his idol and let it expire instead so that he could keep it, not lose trust in Andy for not telling him about it, and potentially use it as a fake decoy later in the game.

8:06 p.m. – On Day 11, Gata and Lavo were greeted by boat with invitations to “drop your buffs” and take their things to their new home at Tuku for the expected merge stage of the game. Once all players were together on the same beach, they found a sign that alerted them to a “grueling challenge” to take place the next day for each of their chance to officially merge. #ButFirst, they were informed there’s an advantage in that challenge hidden somewhere to be found by one player.

8:15 p.m. – While overlooking the water from a cliff, Genevieve and Sam noticed a buoy in the water, but dismissed it as nothing important. Meanwhile, the rest of the players were exhausted by the hunt and spent more time getting to know each other. Then, when everyone was at the well together, they noticed the splattered red paint with broken pottery. This was the evidence from when Sue found the idol and failed to properly hide it, even after lying to her tribe mates. Immediately, Caroline remembered seeing the red on Sue and realized that she must have found the idol and, privately, promised to keep her secret.

8:18 p.m. – Eventually Genevieve decided that she should go investigate the buoy because she couldn’t get it out of her head that it could “be something.” Of course, when she finally got to it, she found the Advantage attached to the buoy and then returned to the camp to inform the others that the Advantage will be revealed by Jeff at the challenge. At that point it became glaringly obvious that the pottery and red paint was not the Advantage and so it dawned on Tiyana that she also saw Sue covered in red days ago. Though Caroline let Sue know that she knows about the idol, Sue worried that Tiyana would become a problem and might need to go sooner rather than later.

8:25 p.m. – Rome was on a mission to get information from the other tribes: he asked Sue what Caroline’s plan with the Amulet is and the night before Kyle told him he thinks Sam and Tiyana are the biggest threat. Kyle also mentioned that Caroline and Sue “aren’t doing well socially” so Rome made sure that Sue was informed, hoping that Sue would trust Rome and want to work with him going forward while having a bigger target to go for. Later he told Sam and Tiyana about Kyle’s disclosures as well. Not feeling well about what Kyle said, Tiyana decided to ask Sol and Andy about it, leading Sol to tell them that “this is what Rome does.” Sol then went to Kyle to let him know Rome said that to Tiyana, which surprised Kyle because he thinks Rome was “twisting” his words. Kyle let Sol know it was a lie and also that he doesn’t have a vote at this tribal council.

8:29 p.m. – Not wanting to get thrown under the bus by Rome, Kyle told Tiyana, Genevieve, Andy, Teeny, Rachel, Sue and Caroline all together that Rome was twisting his words. Sue then opened up about what Rome said Kyle said about her and Caroline, but Kyle said he “didn’t bash” them either.

8:34 p.m. – For their pre-merge challenge, Jeff once again divided the players into two teams, but with an odd number, one player was left out. The twist this season is that the winning team wins a meal reward, but those six players would compete against each other for individual immunity instead of team immunity. Genevieve’s Advantage is to not participate in the team challenge and instead advance straight to the individual portion and automatically earns the food reward.

8:37 p.m. – Instead of randomly drawing the two teams, Jeff randomly drew two team captains that would selected their teams in a schoolyard-style pick. The yellow team was Sierra, Rachel, Sam, Sue, Kyle and Teeny. The blue team was Rome, Caroline, Andy, Gabe, Tiyana and Sol.

8:39 p.m. – In the team challenge, both teams finished the first stage (a paired mud crawl) at the same time and then maintained that equal pace through the second stage (a fence hop and crawl). In the third stage the teams had to haul a massive bag of balls up and down a slide before each player had to get up and over a large ramp. Most members of the blue team were able to run and catch the net to get over the blue ramp, but the yellow team needed to stack sandbags in order to gain height to catch their rope. When Caroline on blue attempted the ramp, she flopped and so Gabe came down to help her up and then was able to get back up on his own. Gabe and Rome then began the table maze for blue before all of the yellow members were up the ramp. Once they got up, Sam and Kyle started on the table maze and raced to overcome blue’s head start. Sol thought Gabe and Rome were jerking around the maze too hard and urged them to touch it more lightly. When Gabe and Rome dropped their ball for a third time, the door was opened for Sam and Kyle’s slow approach to effectively work and they secured the win easily.

8:51 p.m. – For the individual challenge, Genevieve joined Sam, Sierra, Kyle, Rachel, Sue, and Teeny in the competition for immunity. To win, the players had to outlast the others on balance on a beam while also balancing a ball on a narrow and curved holder. Sierra was the first to fall, followed shortly after by Sam, but the other five all made it to the second stage to move to a more narrow beam. In this second stage, Rachel, Genevieve and Teeny all dropped their ball, leaving two to advance to the third stage. In the final round, Sue very quickly showed a lot of movement and ultimately wasn’t able to save her ball from dropping which gave Kyle the first immunity win and a new purple tribe buff.

9:04 p.m. – At their reward feast, the winning team openly discussed wanting to vote Rome out because of the friction he tried to cause among players. The seven players at the reward table agreed to it, but Sam wanted a “second name.” Sue offered Andy’s name, but Sam and Sierra reluctantly agreed to that. Meanwhile, among the losing team Rome was also on everyone’s mind for an easy vote and Andy and Caroline wanted to publicly get the Amulet pieces off of their hands in order to get any target off of their backs.

9:07 p.m. – Having planted seeds to get people to want to vote Kyle out, Rome now needed to throw someone else under the bus because Kyle won immunity. Naturally he turned back to Sol as his primary target, reminding people that Sol was aggressive during the challenge when he and Gabe kept messing up on the maze. Rome pushed “crocodile tears” out to Caroline and Tiyana in order to get them to see Sol as someone that makes other people uncomfortable. Eventually Sol heard that Rome is telling people he’s mean to him, but Sol was banking on Rome’s ego getting in his own way.

9:10 p.m. – When both teams were joined back on the beach, Rome went around to everyone to corral players with the plan to vote Sol out, but Genevieve made sure to touch base with everyone later to confirm that the vote is actually against Rome. Everyone felt good about Rome being confident enough to not play any advantage and Sam disclosed to Andy that his name came up as a backup plan that they gave to Sol.

9:18 p.m. – At tribal council, Rome expressed that his plan was to not ruffle feathers and just go along with the plan that you hear. When the Amulet came up, the group agreed that they think it’s a disadvantage and that’s why the players holding them would be using them. Jeff was surprised by this and so he invited Rome to explain why it’s not a good thing to hold on to them, leaving everyone speechless on how well Rome explained why they need to get rid of them. When it came to blindsides, Gabe said all he cares about is knowing where the votes are going instead of being “the architect” of it, Rome said it’s important to be a part of it, and Andy said they’re fun.

9:23 p.m. – At the voting booth, we saw Andy, Genevieve, Tiyana, Sam, Teeny, and Sol all vote for Rome while Rome confidently “knowing” Sol will go home voted for Sam instead to “shake things up a bit.” As expected, the Amulet holders (Caroline, Andy and Teeny) played it as an Idol for Teeny, nullifying any votes cast for her. Jeff read the votes: Sam, Andy, Andy, Rome, Rome, Rome, Rome, Rome, Rome. With the majority, that sent Rome home while Andy was confused by the two votes on him, not realizing until then that he was “the backup plan.”
