Israeli Official: Attack on Iran will mark the ‘Start of a prolonged war’
A senior Israeli official and retired general of the country’s army, who provides advisory services to the government, stated that any target Israel strikes in Iran would not be limited to a single attack but marks the start of a larger conflict between the two countries.
Brigadier General Amir Avivi, a close friend and neighbor of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Caesarea, regularly advises key ministers in the government. In an exclusive interview with Iran International, he stated, “An Israeli attack on Iran is significant, but it will only be one of a series of attacks. It is merely the beginning of a prolonged war between Israel and Iran.”
Although the specific targets Israel plans to strike in retaliation for Iran’s missile attack on October 1 remain undisclosed, General Avivi believes that which targets Israel chooses is irrelevant because “this is only a start” and should not be seen as a final goal.
According to this former Israeli military official, the ultimate goal for Israel is to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power.
Avivi emphasized that Israel has several surprise measures prepared for Iran but did not provide further details: “I cannot delve into specifics, but we have many interesting surprises ready.”
According to Avivi, the duration of a potential war between Iran and Israel will depend on the outcome of the U.S. presidential elections. “If the U.S. decides to join Israel in a military coalition against Iran, these attacks could be resolved in a few days, taking one to two weeks for Israel. However, if the U.S. continues its appeasement policy, Israel will have to face this challenge alone, which will be time-consuming.”
Avivi believes that if Kamala Harris were to become the U.S. president, she would likely continue an appeasement policy towards Iran, leaving Israel to act independently. In contrast, Donald Trump would probably support Israel through a military coalition. Additionally, Avivi foresees an alliance of Sunni countries opposing the Shia axis in the region.
The recent drone attack on Netanyahu’s residence has heightened tensions. According to Avivi, this attack, allegedly orchestrated by Iran through Hezbollah, was a critical miscalculation. He believes it has provided Israel with the justification to target Iranian leadership directly, signaling a significant escalation in the already volatile situation.
