Four arrests, two sought for Finikoudes fracas
Larnaca police have made four arrests in total on Wednesday for an episode of violence which unfolded in the Finikoudes tourist strip over the weekend.
Speaking on CyBC’s morning radio, police spokesman Christos Andreou said the incident which had lasted about 30 to 40 seconds had resulted in minor property damage, however, it was not an isolate one.
Andreou clarified that the same minors who had been previously convicted of petty offences, including thefts from beachgoers, repeated offences upon their release.
The latest arrests are of three 17-year-olds and one 18-year-old, who were taken into custody for investigations.
Two other minors have had warrants issued against them and are sought, Andreou said.
The first 17-year-old was arrested on a warrant on Sunday and brought before the Larnaca District Court on Monday, where his four-day detention was ordered.
Larnaca CID made the three latest arrests, of two 17-year-olds and an 18-year-old on Tuesday.
The three were taken into custody, and are to be expected to be brought before the court on Wednesday for detention orders.
The incident happened around 9.40pm on Saturday involving a group of about ten youths who, under circumstances that are being investigated, got into an altercation with five diners at a restaurant. No injuries were reported but chairs and tables were damaged.
