Car stolen from driveway in Warr Acres; Crashes in Del City
WARR ACRES, Okla. (KFOR) — Multiple teenage suspects are still on the run after crashing a stolen car from Warr Acres in Del City. A nearby security camera captured the moments just before the car was stolen.
"It was a really strange start to the week, and I was in a dead sleep," said Linda Daxon, who's car was stolen.
It's a wake-up call no one wants to get, but it's one Linda Daxon will never forget.
Police were knocking at her door early Monday morning.
"They came in and said, do you know where your car is? And I said, well, it's— and then I realized it wasn't sitting in my driveway," said Daxon.
Del City Police said teenagers stole her white SUV from Warr Acres and then drove to Del City where they crashed into a parked car and flipped.
"I was just in such a state of shock. You just don't think about your property being stolen and the cops getting you out of bed," said Daxon.
Officers said as many as seven teens ran off after the crash.
"It's amazing anyone walked away from that rollover, let alone maybe half a dozen kids," said Daxon.
On the security footage from a neighbor's camera, the teens can be seen roaming the neighborhood before they walk up to Daxon's car in the driveway and open the door.
"There are a lot of cars here in this particular cul-de-sac area that are left in driveways. So they were just testing each car to see if they found one that was open. And mine just happened to be," said Daxon.
Daxon said she accidentally left her car unlocked after bringing in groceries.
On her own security footage, the car is seen in the driveway and a few minutes later, it's gone.
Daxon said police broke the news to her.
"They're telling me all this and I'm saying, should I be crying? You know, and here I am now without a car," said Daxon.
Police are still tracking down suspects.
"We're trying to follow up on that to determine who the driver was and hopefully we could make an arrest on that," said Major Brad Cowden, Del City Police.
Daxon said she had planned on cleaning out her garage on Tuesday to make room for her car that was stolen.
Her birthday is Friday and she's now planning to get herself a new car and make sure it fits in the garage.
She also wants to add more security cameras outside.
