Just one Spurs star makes it into Troy Deeney’s Team of the Week
Just one Tottenham Hotspur player has made it into Troy Deeney’s Premier League Team of the Week, and it might not be who you think.
Best player on the pitch in Saturday’s London derby
One player stood above every else on the pitch in the clash between Tottenham and West Ham, with Dejan Kulusevski continuing his rich vein of form.
The away side struggled to cope with the Swede’s running power, his ingenuity and enterprise, with the 24-year-old getting the crucial equaliser for the Lilywhites, sending them on their way to a 4-1 win.
However, Kulusevski found no place in Deeney’s Premier League Team of the Week, with the former Watford striker going for a midfield three of Mario Lemina, Curtis Jones and Facundo Buonanotte.
Praise for Tottenham’s returning hero
The only Spurs player who made it into Deeney’s team was Heung-min Son, who made a perfect comeback to the side after recovering from his injury.
The Tottenham captain looked extremely sharp after a three-week layoff and looked like back to his threatening best.
He took his goal brilliantly after being played through on goal, twisting and turning Jean-Clair Todibo with stepovers before rifling the ball into the near post of his left foot.
Deeney wrote about the South Korean in his BBC Sport column: “In a game that could easily have got away from his side after West Ham took the lead, the Spurs captain delivered the final goal to ensure they claimed all three points.
“He was full of positive running throughout and got a good 65 minutes under the belt on his return from injury.”
Son showed Tottenham what they were missing
While Son might not have the legs he once did and may not be capable of breezing past players with ease like he used to, the forward’s composure and his ball-striking ability are second to none.
If he had played against Brighton instead of Timo Werner, there is no doubt that Tottenham would have had the game wrapped up by the end of the first half.
