'Windmills and rabbits and Pocahontas': Trump mocked after latest strange speech
Donald Trump spoke at his own Miami property on Tuesday at a Latino roundtable designed to focus on immigration. Instead, it became the latest in a string of bizarre events as he drifted into rants about solar panels, wind energy and a slew of allegations about Vice President Kamala Harris — including that she was taking the day off and "sleeping."
Harris was in fact filming an NBC interview before flying to Texas for a rally Tuesday evening.
Among Trump's strange comments involved what he said was the devastation of the landscape due to solar panels.
"I'm in favor of solar, but it is not the same," Trump claimed. "It has to fire up the massive plants. But I saw a solar field that looked like it took up half the desert. All steel and glass and wires and looks like hell. And you see rabbits get caught in it. It's terrible," said Trump.
"I like some applications where you have it on a roof or something, but I'm looking at solar fields that are miles, that appear miles of just -- and miles of what it does to your desert areas or the areas you're putting it. It's just crazy," he continued.
Trump also claimed that the cleanest air in U.S. history happened while he was president. He neglected to mention that the country was in COVID lockdown and people were at home.
The comments sparked a lot of questions about Trump's recent rambling.
Commentator and "The View" co-host Ana Navarro posted on X, "Tuned into Trump Latino Roundtable for a minute. He’s talking about windmills and rabbits and Pocahontas. Oh, and lying."
KTLA's David Lazarus jumped in too, saying, "Tell me again about the rabbits, Donald."
"Rabbits getting caught in solar, birds getting caught in windmills, hedgehogs bumping into stationary batteries… He’s so caring about the environment! (And the interests of petrostates)," commented director Duncan Jones on X.
Energy writer Thor Benson fact-checked the Trump claim: "I've been writing about solar energy for over a decade and have never heard this claim."
