Top 5 Moments of Episode 5:
1. Camp Life: One of my favorite aspects of this show is that we get to see the immediate return to camp following the losing tribe’s Tribal Council. Seeing Christine “Teeny” Chirichillo and Jerome “Rome” Cooney’s reactions was priceless. “Rome doesn’t want to work with me!” Not sure when this became the second coming of Quintavius “Q” Burdette and the Yanu Tribe, but this all felt very déjà vu.
2. Survivor Social Hour: Upon the realization that this new twist was in play, I loved that the two teams would be a mix of all three tribes (mostly since I knew it would be messy). Plus, the idea of winning hotdogs and the “Survivor Social Hour” is just perfect. In the end, the mix of individuals benefited the sole Lavo member, Teeny, who had a chance to cultivate some trust and spill the tea about the latest elimination. Also, seeing Kyle Ostwald’s joy at seeing a veggie dog was great. Sam Phalen’s reaction to hearing that the other tribes viewed him as powerful already was icing on the cake. Overall, a great side quest that everyone took advantage of as they learned every dirty little secret. As for the losers of the challenge, the never-ending battle of Rome and Solomon “Sol” Yi became even messier.
3. Chickens and Distrust: At Gata, the chickens were really annoying everyone, but the return of Sam and Rachel LaMont made the mood even more tense as they failed to tell their tribe everything. Teeny didn’t tell her tribe the whole story either, which was also a smart choice given that Rome was there. She was informed that Rome was the new target, which made her very happy. Last but certainly not least, Tuku also failed to get the full story, but Sue Smey ensured that Gabe Ortis learned of Tiyana Hallums throwing him under the bus.
4. Immunity on the Line: Did anyone else see the challenge and think “Yeah this is not going to be a close one”? Love that Gata brought their chickens with them to trade them for two dozen eggs. Kyle continues to be a challenge beast, so watch out for him once individual immunity comes into play. As for Gata, Andy Rueda gave them a terrible start. In the end, the puzzle continues to be the great equalizer this season, and Tuku and Lavo emerged victorious, sending Gata back to Tribal Council.
5. Another One Bites the Dust: Anika Dhar, who was voteless, targeted Andy with confidence. It was too early for that and Sam wanted her gone instead. Andy, much to his credit, had a plan of his own. Sam knew he was forced to play his idol tonight, which made Sam question who had to leave the game. Jeff was eager to discuss the “Survivor Social Hour,” but watching Andy seemingly dig his own grave was bizarre. Sam opted not to play his idol and Anika was shocked to be voted out next. They are lucky that she is not on the jury.
