Day Two discussions

On October 17, 2024, the focus shifted towards how Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) can incorporate the challenges of migration into their auditing frameworks. Through a series of working groups, participants examined the role that SAIs can play in auditing migration-related policies and how these institutions can help identify potential opportunities arising from effective migration management.

The working groups covered key areas such as:

• Migration challenges for EU Member States: This session explored how countries like Malta, Austria, and Germany have tackled migration issues, sharing national experiences that offer valuable lessons.
• Migration as an opportunity to address labour market gaps: This discussion highlighted how migration can help fill labor shortages across the EU, focusing on how SAIs can support the integration of migrants into national workforces.
• Managing irregular migration flows: Cyprus led this session, presenting its own strategies for managing irregular migration and demonstrating how proactive management can turn migration challenges into opportunities.

These discussions provided practical recommendations for how SAIs can support more effective and transparent migration policies, contributing both to national objectives and broader EU goals.
