Why Maddison might be delighted with latest England development
Thomas Tuchel’s appointment as England’s new head coach could come as a major boost to James Maddison’s chances of forcing himself back into the Three Lions set-up.
James Maddison will feel harshly treated
James Maddison had to deal with the heartbreak of being left out of the England squad for the Euros in the summer.
While watching the Three Lions struggle for creativity in the tournament, the Spurs man would have likely felt that he could have made a difference in Germany.
What was even harsher on Maddison was Lee Carsley’s decision to leave him out of the latest squad, given the outstanding form that the midfielder has shown for Spurs since the start of the season.
Things might change for Maddison
However, the 27-year-old’s prospects of forcing himself back into the set-up could now be boosted after the announcement that Tuchel will now sit in the hot seat in Wembley.
This is because the German coach is seemingly a fan of Maddison, having reportedly shown interest in signing him in the past.
Back in the summer of 2023, The Guardian reported that Tuchel wanted to take Maddison to Chelsea and that the West London club had even scouted the midfielder extensively.
Is Maddison a good tactical fit for Tuchel?
We know that historically, Tuchel has been a fan of the 3-4-2-1 system, which could work in Maddison’s favour as it would require two number tens.
However, at Bayern Munich, the 51-year-old preferred a 4-2-3-1 formation, and that could make things quite difficult for the Tottenham man, who would be competing with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and others for the sole number ten role.
