Launch of the South Yorkshire Local Visitor Economy Partnership
The TPT National Office was thrilled to be part of the inaugural meeting of the South Yorkshire Local Visitor Economy Partnership. This landmark event marked the beginning of a collaborative effort to boost the region’s tourism and economy.
A key aim for the partnership is to enhance the visitor experience by focusing on accessibility, ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, can enjoy the beauty and attractions South Yorkshire has to offer. This commitment to inclusivity aligns with the TPT National Office’s values and the recognition of the ‘purple pound’ – the spending power of disabled people and their families. The TPT National Office understands the significance of the purple pound, which is often overlooked in economic planning. By advocating for and implementing accessible solutions, the partnership can tap into this valuable market, driving growth and prosperity for the region.
The launch event was not only a celebration of new beginnings but also a testament to the power of collaboration. It brought together key stakeholders, including businesses, government entities, and community organizations, all dedicated to making South Yorkshire a top destination for all visitors.
The host for the event was Yorkshire actor Chris Walker. Guest speakers at the event were Oliver Coppard – Mayor of South Yorkshire Combined Authority, Andrew Stokes, OBE – England Director, Visit England, Anna Nelson – Chief Executive of AccessAble and Ross Calladine – Accessibility and Inclusion Lead, Visit England. The speaker sessions provided valuable information on the action areas from the South Yorkshire Destination Management Plan, an update on national tourism priorities, as well as the latest news on the South Yorkshire Airport City (SYAC) plan.
The TPT National Office looks forward to contributing its expertise and working alongside the South Yorkshire Local Visitor Economy Partnership to create a welcoming, accessible, and thriving visitor economy. Together, we can make South Yorkshire a place where the purple pound flourishes, and every visitor feels valued and included.
