TPT and The Stanhope Arms – a perfect fusion of nature and hospitality
The Trans Pennine Trail offers an unparalleled journey through some of England’s most breathtaking landscapes. Stretching over 370 miles the Trail is a haven for walkers, cyclists, wheelers and horse riders alike. As you traverse along its network, serene woodlands, and picturesque villages, one stop you absolutely cannot miss is The Stanhope Arms at Dunford Bridge, nestled between Penistone and Hadfield. For years this historically spectacular building has been closed and then purchased in 2015 by Emma and Toby with a fantastic vision of how to bring life back into the building, whilst supporting the local community and the Trail.
What’s their vision? After a day of exploring the Trans Pennine Trail you’ll be met by two passionate people providing a charming, relaxing atmosphere that will offer travellers a place to rest, refuel, and soak in the local culture. The Eclectic decor, with its traditional panelling, colourful tiling and cosy fireplaces are just waiting to make you feel at home. The Stanhope Arms will be more than just a place to eat and drink. It will be a community hub, hosting regular yoga and artist sessions. Even now, they’re on the lookout for local people who would like to run these sessions.
For those looking to extend their stay, The Stanhope Arms will be offering fabulous accommodation, whether this be with their tastefully decorated rooms which combine modern amenities with traditional charm or the Glamping pods (including an accessible pod). You’ll be waking up to the sound of birdsong and the promise of another day of adventure on the Trail.
If you’re embarking on a long-distance trek or a short day trip, The Stanhope Arms at Dunford Bridge will be an essential stop on the Trans Pennine Trail and we commend Emma and Toby for all the hard work that they’ve done – even during the Covid pandemic, they never gave up. Their love for this building is palpable.
