Chilliwack, BC – The Penticton Vees scored not one but two shorthanded goals in a come-from-behind 5-3 win over the Victoria Grizzlies, Wednesday afternoon at the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack.
The Vees have now won six in a row and have won eight of their first nine games to start the season.
Captain Conyr Hellyer and Max Heise scored shorthanded goals in Wednesday’s comeback win. Hellyer had a pair of goals and finished with three points. Ryden Evers and Luke Posthumus also scored for Penticton. For the second straight night, Evers and Posthumus each finished with a goal and an assist.

Hellyer scored both of his goals in the first period, as the two teams were tied 2-2 through 20 minutes. After Victoria’s Malcom Green opened the scoring, Hellyer tied it at 9:29 with his first of the season. Then, when Penticton was down 2-1, Hellyer scored shorthanded at 17:38 to tie it back up 2-2, after a two-on-one rush with Posthumus.
After a scoreless second period, things kick-off in the third, as the Vees scored three goals in seven and a half minutes to pull out the win.
The Grizzlies pulled ahead 3-2 at 6:49 after the Vees ran into penalty trouble. Victoria’s Drew Hockley scored on a five-on-three as the Grizzlies grabbed their third lead of the game. The Vees were still in a pickle as they had to kill off the remaining three minutes of a double minor high sticking penalty.

Not only did Penticton kill off the penalty, but they also scored shorthanded, again, as Max Heise tied it at 8:27 on a spectacular individual effort. Heise won a race to the puck, danced around the defenceman, and then dove and chipped the puck over the goalie as he was falling. The highlight reel goal was the turning point.
Evers and Posthumus then scored just over two minutes apart to cap off the comeback. Evers got the game-winner at 13:16, as his fifth made it 4-3 for the Vees. Then Posthumus squeezed his shot through the goalies pads for his fourth at 15:59.
Anselmo Rego picked up two more assists in the win and has record a point in each of the first nine games of the season. Luke Posthumus has scored in three straight games and has eight points in his last six games. Ryden Evers has points in four straight games.
