Apple launches new AI-Powered iPad Mini with A17 Pro Chip
Apple launched its new generation of the iPad mini on Tuesday, according to a Reuters report. The device features AI capabilities such as writing tools and an enhanced Siri assistant. The tech giant is aiming to enhance its devices with artificial intelligence features.
The new iPad mini is powered by Apple’s A17 Pro chip, which is also used in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models. The A17 Pro’s six-core central processing unit boosts CPU performance by 30% compared to the current iPad mini models and is crucial for running Apple’s AI software, Apple Intelligence.
Apple announced it will begin rolling out the first set of AI features this month in the U.S. version of the English language, through a software update with iPadOS 18.1.
These features will be available on iPads with the A17 Pro or M1 chips and newer generations. Over the next few months, additional features, including image-generation tools, Genmoji, and ChatGPT-powered capabilities, will be released.
In September, Apple introduced its AI-enhanced iPhone 16 lineup. However, the initial AI features were still in test mode, which dampened investor excitement, and early sales data raised some concerns about demand.
Despite this, research firm Canalys predicted that the iPhone 16 would boost Apple’s sales in the fourth quarter and build momentum into the first half of 2025, following record-high shipments in the third quarter.
Apple said the iPad mini, starting at $499, will be available for pre-order beginning Tuesday and will start reaching customers and Apple stores next week. The launch of this AI-powered iPad mini demonstrates Apple’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge AI technology across its product range, aiming to stay competitive in the evolving tech landscape.
