Meet the Candidate: Cody Louviere running for Youngsville's Chief of Police
YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- Cody Louviere was appointed as the interim Chief of Police by Youngsville city officials in August last year. Now, he is running to keep his position.
Louviere said he wants to move forward as police chief.
"My vision is just going forward," Louviere said. "It's always moving forward, always looking for the next step that what we can bring to our citizens to make our city safer, the safest it can be, to keep our citizens safe, to make sure that they're heard and the issues they're having- that we're addressing them properly."
Louviere has 22 years of experience as a police officer and is the current police chief in Youngsville.
He said his priority is gaining citizens' trust through transparency, officer training, and accountability.
"Transparency- you know, making sure we're releasing information to the public, keeping the public informed of things that happen in our city and the things that we're doing to combat those things," Louviere said.

He continued to his second campaign platform - officer training.
"We brought great training into the city already, whether it be an online platform that we have that allows us to disseminate training at a click of a button to our guys, if we see something that we may be deficient in or things that our guys need to expand their training in-We brought that in immediately," Louviere said.
He said he is also focused on department accountability.
"I've come in and really put a huge focus on leadership throughout the department, from myself and holding myself accountable, to how we lead our people and our officers," Louviere said. "To a day-one officer coming in and learning leadership and learning that their leadership skills and holding each other accountable and teaching their officers on the side of the skills that they may be more proficient in is key."
Louviere said he's lucky to have served a community that is always behind its police department.
"We're 18,000 residents, but it's still a small-town feel," Louviere said.
"It's still easy to communicate with residents individually, make those phone calls, return those emails, have those face-to-face conversations. And that's what I love about being here. And that's why I want to continue being the chief of police in Youngsville," he continued.
