Meet the Candidate: Matt Thomassee running for Youngsville's Chief of Police
YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- Matt Thomassee is running for Chief of Police after 25 years in law enforcement and private investigations.
Thomassee said the biggest focus of his campaign is to put a fresh set of eyes on the police department.
"We need to go in there and have a full, comprehensive review completed of the department, so we know where our weaknesses and our strengths are," Thomassee said. "So, we can make the proper adjustments to better serve the community."
Thomassee has 25 years of combined experience in law enforcement, private investigation, and private security work.
His “Thomassee Plan” focuses on public safety, leadership, community engagement and fiscal responsibility. Thomassee said his plan is to determine long-term goals after completing an operational review of the police department.

"We'll evaluate and see where we can make areas of improvement," Thomassee said. "I also want the department to be more community-driven. Youngsville as a whole has grown a lot in the last 10-20 years, and with that growth, the department has become somewhat disconnected from the community we serve."
"So, I'd like to see the department geared more towards a community-driven approach where we are actively getting input from the residents of the city of Youngsville, and we are making the appropriate taking the appropriate measures to address whatever their concerns might be in terms of public safety," Thomassee continued.
Thomassee said he is best fit for the role because of his time in Youngsville and his background in law enforcement and security.
"I think I'm the best candidate for the role of Youngsville Chief of Police simply for a couple of reasons. I've been in the community for almost 40 years now, and the only candidate who has been in the community for in excess of eight years, I believe," Thomassee said.
"I am a father, I am a husband, I am a grandfather. It (Youngsville) is the community I've chosen to stay in and raise my family in," he continued.
