From natural glow to ‘no make-up’ look – we test three blushlighters at all price points
I’M usually all for hybrid beauty products but there’s one new one I’m sceptical about – blushlighter.
The combination of blusher and highlighter sounds like a recipe for disaster.
So this week, I put three to the test.
Budget
Sculpted By Aimee Liquid Lights Blush, £18 for 7ml, sculptedbyaimee.co.uk: This was the first of the three I tried, so I had no idea quite what to expect.
But I’m familiar with liquid and cream blushes so used the same approach I would with those, and it worked perfectly.
A little goes a long way, yet it’s not so intensely pigmented that you’ll end up clown-like if you overdo it.
The glow looks natural, so it’s perfect for daily wear – although I’d love more shades.
Mid-range
Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Luminous Powder Blush, £26 for 2.8g, spacenk.com: When I swatched this on my hand, I thought there was absolutely no way I’d like it on my face.
It’s extremely glittery, and when I first applied it to my cheeks, I wasn’t sure I would ever reach for it again.
By the end of the day, however, it looked far more natural, and the pink hue remained – which isn’t always the case.
Now I’ve mastered the application – less is more, and keep blending even when you think you can’t blend any more – it’s one I’ll definitely use for special occasions and when I think my photo will be taken.
But it’s too glowy for me for everyday use.
Luxury
Dior Forever Glow Maximizer, £36 for 11ml, boots.com: I had mixed feelings about this and have gone back to it nearly a dozen times trying to work out my thoughts.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work well with my foundation so I have to be really careful with how I apply it – and generally, use my fingers rather than a brush.
It’s buildable, so you can dial up the colour as there’s not much pigment with just one layer, but that means it’s virtually impossible to apply too much.
If you’re usually someone who doesn’t wear blush, but wants a healthy glow, or you love the “no make-up” look, then you’ll really like it, but I prefer more colour.
