One arrested in weekend Carencro homicide, more arrests anticipated
CARENCRO, La. (KLFY) -- One arrest has been made in connection with the deadly shooting of a 22-year-old Church Point man on Saturday, according to the Carencro Police Department. More arrests are anticipated.
Deandre Hypolite, 23, was arrested on Saturday on warrants for principal to first-degree murder and four counts of principal to attempted first-degree murder in connection with the death of Isaiah Sam, according to a news release.
Hypolite is a former basketball player for the Breaux Bridge Tigers and Northeast Mississippi Community College.
He was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center and then was later taken to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center, authorities said.
According to a news release, the shooting occurred around 2 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, on I-49 southbound between two vehicles.
Police said responding officers found a truck that had hit the Super 6 hotel on NW Frontage Road. Inside, the Sam was found dead with an apparent gunshot wound.
Four other passengers were in the truck but were not injured in the shooting, police said.
