Patrick Dorgu can join a ‘top club’ amid links with Spurs, Lecce director admits
Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be in need of a new left-back in the coming transfer window, and one of the club’s top targets in that area could well be on the move after his sporting director claimed he is capable of playing for a top club.
Patrick Dorgu wanted by top clubs
While Spurs have Destiny Udogie as their primary left-back, plus Djed Spence, Ben Davies, and Archie Gray all capable of playing there, it is clear they need adequate cover and competition in the squad.
Patrick Dorgu is believed to be one of Tottenham’s top transfer targets as we head towards the January transfer window.
If Ange Postecoglou does indeed have his eyes on Dorgu, then his hopes of signing the 19-year-old will have been lifted by recent comments from Lecce sporting director, Stefano Trinchera, hinting that the Danish star will leave the club eventually.
He told TuttoMercatoWeb: “It’s not true that we had already sold him. He is one of our young players, who are being looked at by many important clubs. Today we are all thinking about survival, but Dorgu’s future is in his hands. He can join a top club due to the qualities he has.”
Spurs were put off by price in the summer
In further reports on Dorgu’s situation, Planeta Lecce have revealed Spurs did indeed have strong interest in the youngster during the summer transfer window, but were deterred by the price tag Lecce placed on him.
Apparently, “negotations did not proceed” at the time due to Lecce demanding more than the €35m (£29.3m) Spurs were hoping to pay.
Make it happen, Tottenham
For me, Patrick Dorgu should be our priority in the January window. He fits our profile perfectly, and though Lecce clearly want to push his price up, I reckon we can get him on a fair deal. Udogie is great, but he needs more competition to keep him on his toes.
