Supercomputer makes two big predictions that will Spurs fans will love
Nobody can see the future, but fans, pundits, and technology will always try to make predictions when it comes to the football season. The latest forecast from an Opta supercomputer has thrown up an optimistic outlook for Spurs fans, and offers far less positive news for Arsenal.
Top four hopes for Spurs
After seven games this season, the Premier League table is beginning to take shape, and we are seeing some familiar faces at the top and bottom of the table that many would have expected to see.
Liverpool lead the way, with Manchester City and Arsenal close behind. Meanwhile, Wolves are at the foot of the table, while newly-promoted Ipswich Town and Southampton flirt with the relegation zone having all failed to win a game so far.
Spurs have had a rather inconsistent start to the campaign, with three wins, three defeats, and one draw giving them ten points and putting them in ninth place in the table. Suffice it to say, Ange Postecoglou, and the fans, will all be expecting to be much higher in the league come May next year.
Well, according to data from Opta’s supercomputer (via The Mirror), Tottenham can expect to find themselves in fourth place at the end of the season, with Manchester City in third, Chelsea in second place, and Liverpool winning the league.
Bad news for Arsenal
As for the other side of North London, Spurs fans will be delighted to see their arch-rivals Arsenal wallowing in eighth place in this prediction model. That’s thought to be largely fuelled by the amount of chances the Gunners concede each game, and the theory that their defensive tactics will come undone as the season progresses.
The prediction notably has Manchester United finishing in tenth place, Aston Villa and Fulham securing European football, and Wolves, Leicester, and Ipswich facing the drop.
Tottenham just need a trophy
Seeing this prediction is nice, but let’s be honest, it is highly unlikely Arsenal are going to finish eighth, and we are going to have to fight tooth and nail (and improve a lot) if we want to bag a top-four spot.
At the end of the day, though, Tottenham’s priority has to be winning a trophy, and I wouldn’t even care if that meant we finish a little lower in the league.
