Mass protest planned in NYC in support of Palestinians in Gaza
NEW YORK (PIX11) – A mass protest is planned in New York City on Monday amid events commemorating those who died in the Oct. 7 terror attacks in Israel last year.
Protests are expected at Wall Street, City Hall, Washington Square Park, Union Square, Grand Central, Times Square, and Columbus Circle, according to a post on Within Our Lifetime's X account.
"Stand with Gaza and uplift the Palestinian people resisting genocide by any means necessary since 1948. Call out of work and school, take to the streets and join us throughout the day," the social media post read.
There will also be a separate protest at Columbia University Monday morning.
More than 41,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip since Israel invaded after the Oct. 7, 2023 terror attack by Hamas. At least 1,200 people were killed and 250 people were taken hostage by Hamas in its attack on Israel.
Mayor Eric Adams released a statement on X regarding protests, saying, "To those who plan to use this day to peacefully protest, that is your right. As you do so, remember to follow the law and I ask you to please hold a place in your hearts for those who lost everything a year ago today."
Memorials are taking place all across the tri-state area. IfNotNow and Jews For Racial & Economic Justice are holding an event in Union Square to remember Palestinians and Israelis killed over the last year.
Gov. Kathy Hochul is expected to attend a Central Park vigil to honor those killed in the Oct. 7 attack.
