Big Brother contestants hit by Love Island style social media rules after ‘racist tweets’ scandal
BIG Brother contestants must abide by the same set of rules as Love Island stars as part of ITV’s duty of care.
Bosses have banned Housemates’ friends and family from using their social media while they’re on the show.
The stars’ profiles were not shared on last night’s launch show – but fans who were able to find them discovered they have been turned to private.
Strict social media background checks have also been made to avoid a repeat of Trish‘s ‘racist tweets’ scandal last year.
Fans were furious to discover she had made offensive posts from 2012 about gay and Asian people.
There were also vile Hitler tweets sent by Trish circulating online, all of which The Sun does not wish to repeat.
A spokesman for Big Brother said at the time they were investigating why the “concerning historical tweets” were not identified by the independent supplier engaged to review the digital footprint of potential Housemates.
Trish said last year: “I know apologies can seem convenient in these circumstances but I mean it from the bottom of my heart; I am truly sorry.”
Since last year, friends and family have been banned from posting on Instagram, X and TikTok while Love Island airs.
TV said the ban was to “protect both the Islanders and their families from the adverse effects of social media”.

Love Islanders have since begged ITV bosses to do a U-turn on the channel’s social media rule.
The second series of the rebooted Big Brother kicked off on ITV2 last night.
The line-up of housemates included King Charles‘ former butler and a football amputee.
