Beloved BBC game show goes missing from schedules mid-series as bosses make way for rival programme
A HIT BBC game show is disappearing from schedules as bosses make space for a rival programme’s comeback.
Hosted by Romesh Ranganathan, a revived version of The Weakest Link began airing in 2021.
The programme will be temporarily leaving screens – as Beeb bosses prepare for the return of another project.
Saturday night favourite Michael McIntyre‘s The Wheel is coming back for a new series.
The programme will officially return from Saturday, October 12.
Meanwhile, The Weakest Link will resume its own run at a later date.
Launched in 2020, The Wheel’s format sees seven celebrities strapped to a spinning wheel.
Each bring expertise to a specific subject, which the contestants must answer questions on.
Speaking of the contestants, they are waiting underneath The Wheel on their very own Contestant Wheel.
Once this is spun, one of three players is randomly chosen to rise up and take control of the game.
Some famous faces set to appear as experts include Richard Osman, Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Steph McGovern and Motsi Mabuse.
It comes as the new series received a bombshell visit from a major music star.
The Sun revealed how Robbie Williams gatecrashed an upcoming episode, leaving host Michael McIntyre stunned.
During the show, Michael introduced a civilian contestant, as the 50-year-old singer made a surprise appearance.
The former Take That star made a dramatic entrance as he rose up from the depths of the studio floor.
His wife, actress Ayda Field, is among the celebrity guests in the episode.
Michael, 48, exclaimed: “No! That’s done something weird to my brain. Okay, so hi, how’s it going?”
Introducing himself just like any other contestant, Robbie said: “I’m Robbie, I’m 50 and I’m from Stoke-On-Trent.

- Who Wants To Be A Millionaire – Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the “worst” question in the show’s history. Host Jeremy Clarkson asked: “From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?” The multiple choice answers were between G, K, M and W. In the end, and with the £32,000 safe, player Glen had to make a guess and went for G. It turned out to be correct as Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the Best Actress gong since 2000.
- The 1% Club – Viewers of Lee Mack’s popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. The query went as follows: “Edna’s birthday is on the 6th of April and Jen’s birthday falls on the 15th of October, therefore Amir’s birthday must be the ‘X’ of January.” It turns out the conundrum links the numbers with its position in the sentence, so 6th is the sixth word and 15th is the fifteenth word. Therefore, Amir’s birthday is January 24th, corresponding to the 24th word in the sentence.
- The Chase – The ITV daytime favourite left fans scratching their heads when it threw up one of the most bizarre questions to ever grace the programme. One of the questions asked the player: “Someone with a nightshade intolerance should avoid eating what?” The options were – sweetcorn, potatoes, carrots – with Steve selecting sweetcorn but the correct answer was potatoes.
“I’m aquarius and I auditioned for a pop band and I got in and they were called Take That.”
When asked what he’d do with any potential prize money, the singer replied: “I need to figure out a way to pay for my wife’s glam. To keep my wife in handbags, shoes and foundation.”
Despite being a favourite with the audience, Michael ultimately sent Robbie packing from the hot seat.
