Amanda Abbington’s partner Jonathan Goodwin breaks silence after results of Giovanni Pernice Strictly probe
AMANDA Abbington’s fiancé Jonathan Goodwin has heaped praise on her following the release of the BBC’s investigation into Giovanni Pernice.
The Corporation spent six months analysing 17 complaints made by Amanda, 50, after she quit the show last year while partnered with Giovanni, 34.
It apologised to her after upholding six of them, though it appears Giovanni is the happier of the two parties with the outcome.
Yesterday, Jonathan took to Instagram and shared a picture of Amanda next to Princess Anne.
He wrote: “What an amazing woman. Never met anyone so determined to stand up for what’s right. To advocate for the needy and to never cow-tow to the bullying media. The Princess Royal is also amazing.”
It came just hours ahead of Amanda’s appearance on BBC Newsnight where she gave her first interview since the findings were made public.
During the sit-down chat, she accused the Italian dancer of making “sexual innuendos” and “sexual gestures” during rehearsals last year.
Speaking to Victoria Derbyshire, Amanda also revealed she met with celebrities who were previously partnered with Gio and said: “We all cried, we all burst into tears”.
She continued: “We just wanted to make sure that we weren’t on our own and thinking this had just happened to us.
“Everyone I spoke to all said the same thing, it wasn’t pleasant and it wasn’t what everyone else was going through in the other [rehearsal] rooms.”
However, a spokesman for Giovanni told The Sun: “It’s disappointing that Ms Abbington would knowingly mislead the outcome of the report in order to further damage Giovanni’s reputation.
“While Ms Abbington may not like the outcome of the six month investigation, she should not seek to spread false and defamatory claims.”
The report concluded that Giovanni was not abusive to Amanda, did not make threats and was not intimidating.
The report also found that there was no aggressive or physical contact between Giovanni and Amanda.
In a statement, the broadcaster said: “The BBC has now concluded its review into the complaints made by Amanda Abbington against Giovanni Pernice.
“We take any allegations of bullying and harassment very seriously and this review has taken time due to its complex nature and our desire to ensure a rigorous and robust process was undertaken.
“Strictly Come Dancing is a family show and we rightly expect very high standards.
“While competition can be tough, rigorous and demanding, we want the show to ultimately be a joyous and transformative experience.
“It is a great shame if this hasn’t been the case for everyone who has appeared on the show.
“We have assessed the complaints and we have upheld some, but not all, of the complaints made.
“We want to apologise to Amanda Abbington and to thank her for coming forward and taking part.
“We know this would not have been an easy thing to do.”

23rd July: BBC boss Tim Davie breaks his silence on the ongoing allegations against Strictly, saying he is ‘deeply sorry’, adding: “Hundreds of people, be they pros, contestants or crew have been part of it and had a brilliant experience.
“At the same time if someone thinks there was something wrong or they want to talk about their experience then of course we want them to raise that with us. Be in no doubt we will take it seriously, listen and deal with it as appropriate.”
24th July: Strictly 2023 star Krishnan Guru-Murthy holds a bombshell interview with Amanda Abbington on Channel 4 news, where she claims she was bullied, with some of the ‘humilation being of a sexual nature’.
27th July: Laura Whitmore releases a statement regarding her Strictly experience, saying “I thought my experience was specific to me but I’ve since learned I was wrong”.
She adds she is not part of the official complaint, but has come forward to support Amanda with the BBC, alongside others.
28th July: Laila Rouass speaks out against the accusations regarding Anton Du Beke, saying she “never felt pressured” by him and “personally insisted on six to seven hours training a day”.
10th August: Graziano breaks his silence on his Strictly axe, saying “these vile, false allegations have ruined my life.”

11th August: Just as the investigation was expected to conclude, Amanda made a dramatic intervention. Giovanni was on the brink of being cleared until Amanda handed in more text messages.
24th August: Graziano Di Prima called in top lawyers to sue the BBC and to try to clear his name. He recruited big hitters Whitestone Chambers to fight his corner.
A source said: “They’ve also looked at his BBC contract and believe there are grounds to sue.”
Meanwhile, the BBC also delayed releasing the findings of the probe into Giovanni Pernice. The Sun revealed that the results of the three-month investigation were unlikely to be announced in August.
