Inside Lorraine Kelly’s beauty secrets and tip she stole from daughter Rosie as ageless star celebrates 40 years on TV
LORRAINE Kelly has celebrated an impressive 40 years in television – and still looks as glowing as the day her career began.
The sofa queen, 64, was today commemorated on her ITV show with special appearances from celeb pals and guests, and a look back at her career highlights.
Telly fave Lorraine began her path into journalism with regional paper, the East Kilbride News, turning down a university place to study English and Russian to join the local newsroom.
She later joined BBC Scotland as a researcher in 1983 where she got a taste for broadcasting.
In 1984, she moved to TV-am as an on-screen reporter covering Scottish news.
And in 1990 she began her presenting career on Good Morning Britain, before getting her own show, Lorraine, in 2010.
The Scots presenter always look fresh-faced and radiant on her daytime talk show.
And she has a few beauty secrets when it comes to her ageless looks – none of which involve Botox or invasive treatments.
Speaking in her 2019 book Shine, she said: “Our culture prizes youth above all else but people don’t take enough time to think of the benefits of growing older.
“I feel happier in my own skin and more willing to cut myself a bit of slack and be kinder to myself. I don’t understand why we find it so easy to show kindness towards others but not towards ourselves.
“Ageing shouldn’t be scary. Forget a Chanel handbag: the best accessory a woman can have is inner confidence, which shines above all else.
“I’ve known girls who can walk into a room and every pair of eyes is on them.
“They may not be the most traditionally beautiful women there, but they will have a unique quality – such as the ability to make people laugh – and that’s what makes them so attractive.
“Women are having surgery younger and younger. A 19-year-old does not need Botox. So many women have ruined their faces with filler.
“I think I look fine as I am and I will never go under the knife. I like my laughter lines (a much nicer way of saying wrinkles).
“I hate that women make themselves miserable every time they look in the mirror. Your wrinkles tell your story.
“It’s an individual choice whether or not to have work done but I wish we could all be a little more accepting of ourselves and the ageing process. Because it’s going to happen whether we like it or not.
“Treatments that offer results beyond the capabilities of skincare are becoming more and more popular. I’m not a fan of Botox or fillers because I find them much more ageing.
“Look after your skin well and it will pay off in the long run.”
Indeed, Lorraine says she exfoliates and does a mini-facial at home every week, and has a professional facial once a month – something she’s stuck to since the young age of 16.
She also swears by a collagen wave, a non-invasive facial treatment that speeds up collagen production at its deepest level using radio frequency and ultrasound waves in order to plump, contour and tighten the skin.
The proud gran also undergoes Caci treatments – computer-aided cosmetology instrument – which is a non-surgical facelift.
This involves the regeneration of skin tissues and helps to repair collagen, which boosts the appearance of skin texture.
And Lorraine has even picked up a skincare hack from her daughter Rosie.
Speaking to Liz Earle, she said: “Cleansing is something I’ve learned from my daughter as well.
“She double cleanses, and she is evangelical about it! I use a balm and a facecloth and I love that with the facecloth you can wash that and use it again.”
Despite spending a lot of time in her homeland, Scotland, the TV legend says she doesn’t go a day without applying SPF to her face either.
“I use one every single day no matter what time of year it is”, she says.
“I always thought that we don’t need to use sunscreen in the UK, but actually, we have to make sure that we protect our complexion.”
