'Nobody Wants This' Creator Erin Foster Responds to Criticisms of Portraying Jewish Stereotypes on the Show
Nobody Wants This is the number one show on Netflix right now and fans are falling in love with the characters in the rom-com series.
Erin Foster created the new show and it’s loosely based on her own experience of falling in love with a Jewish man, her now-husband Simon Tikhman.
Nobody Wants This follows an agnostic sex podcaster (Kristen Bell) and a newly single rabbi (Adam Brody) who fall in love, but can their relationship survive their wildly different lives and meddling families?
The show has faced criticism for stereotypical portrayals of the Jewish characters and Erin is responding.

“I think we need positive Jewish stories right now. I think it’s interesting when people focus on, ‘Oh, this is a stereotype of Jewish people,’ when you have a rabbi as the lead. A hot, cool, young rabbi who smokes weed. That’s the antithesis of how people view a Jewish rabbi, right?” she told the Los Angeles Times.
Erin continued, “If I made the Jewish parents, like, two granola hippies on a farm, then someone would write, ‘I’ve never met a Jewish person like that before. You clearly don’t know how to write Jewish people, you don’t know what you’re doing, and that doesn’t represent us well.’”
Adam recently explained why he initially was not interested in the role.
