Huddersfield Town Fans Verdict: A Royal Comeback Win
How the fans reacted to a fantastic three points against Huddersfield.
Well, that was fun wasn’t it?
It wasn’t our finest performance by any stretch: we struggled to really get the ball on the deck and play some of the football that I’m sure Ruben Selles wanted us to.
However, all the things we’ve grown to know and love about this time - the fight, the will to win, the cohesion - were on show in abundance. Even when we don’t play our best, we’ve got a chance of a result because this team care, and will run themselves into the ground for 90 minutes.
Two moments of real quality ended up winning us the game. Here’s how the fans reacted to the big talking points...
Harvey Knibbs
He’s genuinely as important to this team than any other player. His tenacity, aggression and ability to win back possession are unmatched by anyone in this team, and perhaps most in the division.
His goal on Saturday was the optimal Harvey Knibbs Goal. Win the ball back out of nowhere, before clinically putting it past the keeper. I love this bloke.
And it seems the rest of the fanbase do too...
Harvey Knibbs’s interception stats are extraordinary!! Made another goal there. #readingfc

It's so good having Harvey Knibbs back.

Typically, when we play well as a team, Knibbs plays a key role in it. Once again, he had a great game and stepped up with a brilliant goal to get us back into the game.#ReadingFC pic.twitter.com/1zHdVv1UHN
Proper finish that from Knibbs. Not sure if the ref played advantage for the foul on Elliot but it should’ve been a free kick anyway. I’ll definitely take the Knibbs goal instead #readingfc

Superb from Knibbs #ReadingFC

Excellent poacher goal from Knibbs. Stole in on some terrible Huddersfield defending to then smash it home #readingfc

David Button
He gets more than his fair share of slack does Button - some deserved, some not. So I think it’s only right he gets a bit of a shoutout here, and it seems most of you guys thought the same.
He made a superb save for the opener, which should’ve been backed up by his team mates, and looked really confident throughout. His distribution was also very impressive, and caused problems a couple of times on the counter-attack.
The fans were definitely impressed with his showing...
I think we can all agree that button was motm today #readingfc

Fair play to Button, very very solid overall today #readingfc

Button deserves credit today, not much he could have done after saving that first shot, our defence should have been back to cover, great result today really needed. #readingfc

Button did alright for me today! Looked solid overall and made some good stops! #readingfc
— BerkshireBoys (@BerkshireBoys_) September 28, 2024
I’m not a great Button fan but I really can’t understand those, including ‘Listen’, criticising him for the Huddersfield goal & claiming he should’ve done better with the initial save. He was solid today & a key contributor to the three points. #readingfc

Credit to David Button as well may have not been a fan favourite for a long time but coming in all of a sudden against a side like @htafc he’s done extremely well #readingfc
— (@gyb_8) September 28, 2024
#readingfc Never thought I’d say this, but David Button is my man of the match.

A comeback win
A comeback win always tastes that little bit sweeter. It was quite an even game in truth (Michael Duff’s comments that his team dominated the game in every metric apart from the scoreline is a bit far-fetched in my opinion), so to show the fight and grit we did to come from behind was fantastic.
It epitomises this team too. We haven't had a team for as long as I can remember that has the mental stoicism and togetherness that this one does, and it’s so refreshing - considering everything they’re having to deal with.
The fans were impressed with a good Saturday afternoon’s work...
Unbelievable win and to comeback from 1 nil down

Home form so key
Knibbs worked so hard for his goal n got the reward
Button unlucky with quality save on free kick
Credit to Ruben and players they just keep going
Big game Tuesday vs Burton, hopefully another W#ReadingFC
Love Reading FC I do. Such a good win today #readingfc

Very good win today against a good side. Ruben deserves huge credit to pick the squad up after the failed takeover. The team has spirit and an identity which is so good to see and feel. If we are a little more pragmatic/ less expansive away, results will come too. #readingfc

#readingfc. Immense performance given everything. Huge credit to David Button, he played a big role in today’s win. Thought Knibbs & Kelvin were brilliant.

Conclusion
All in all, a really enjoyable Saturday afternoon. It was a great win, and another moment that summed up why we all love this team, this group of players and staff, so much.
Next up is Burton Albion at home, a great chance to start building a bit of momentum. When you look at the team’s we’ve faced so far - Birmingham City, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, Charlton Athletic, Huddersfield, Wrexham - all teams that you’d expect to be up around the top of the table come May, it’s actually quite an impressive start.
URZ!
