After the Buzzer – Vernon Vipers Fall to West Kelowna Warriors in Overtime Thriller, 4-3
Vernon, BC: The Vernon Vipers staged an impressive comeback from a two-goal deficit to force overtime but couldn’t complete the rally, falling 4-3 in extra time to the West Kelowna Warriors on Saturday night.
Will Schumacher, George Stavrianeas, and Charlie Kresl scored the Viper goals, with Landon MacDonald, Shea Busch, Cooper Cleaves, Lucas Brennan, and Erik Pastro all providing assists. Schumacher and Brennan extended their respective point streaks to three and four games. Goaltender Colin Reay was solid between the pipes, turning aside 31 of 35 shots in a valiant effort.
Vernon’s special teams were a bright spot, converting 1 of 2 chances on the power play while going a perfect 3 for 3 on the penalty kill. George Stavrianeas also added a shorthanded goal that helped spark the comeback.
West Kelowna’s Dylan Krayer was the offensive leader for his squad, netting a pair of goals, while Carter Oakenfold scored for the second consecutive game, including the overtime winner. Callum Hughes also chipped in with a goal, and goaltender Dawson Labre made 30 saves, including four crucial stops in overtime.
The loss drops the Vipers to 0-3-1-0 on the season, while the Warriors improve to 2-1-1.
Vernon will look to regroup as they prepare to face the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in their home opener on Friday, October 4th.
