Police: Reports of student with gun puts West Salem schools on lockdown
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Multiple West Salem schools went into lockdown on Friday afternoon following reports of a student with a gun, authorities said.
A student has been located in connection to the case after a law enforcement search in the area surrounding West Salem High School, where initial reports of an armed student outside the school surfaced, Salem police said.
Following the reports, the Salem Keizer School District activated their safety and security systems and worked with the police.
"As additional reports came in that the student was on foot in the neighboring area, several Salem Police officers, and Polk County Deputies responded to look for the student," the Salem Police Department said in a release. "In addition to officers searching the area on foot, canine officers and drones were deployed."
Officials said the student was located "without incident" and that the investigation is still ongoing.
It wasn't clear in the release whether the student had a gun when they were found or if they were facing criminal charges.
