JAMES MCHENRY (3.40 Newmarket, nap)

He is an improving handicapper who should enjoy this challenge. He kicked off this season winning up Carlisle’s hill before holding his own in good company including when hampered at York last time. He has scored on soft ground and trainer Ed Bethell is having another excellent season.

GHOST RUN (1.15 Newmarket, nb)

She was in front a fair way out at Doncaster last time but fought off her rivals to land the win. That was a personal best in the good season and this daughter of Kameko looks capable of better again for Andrew Balding.

BLUE STORM (3.15 Haydock, treble)

He enjoyed some give in the ground when winning a hot handicap at Epsom on Derby day and he went close in another massive field at Royal Ascot over this trip. He looked in need of the run after a break in a Beverley Listed race last month and still looks fairly handicapped.

Templegate’s TV verdicts

NEWMARKET

1.15

GHOST RUN was in front a fair way out at Doncaster last time but fought off her rivals to land the win.

That was a personal best in the good season and this daughter of Kameko looks capable of better again for Andrew Balding.

Geo got the job done nicely at Newbury on handicap debut and a 5lb rise in the weights looks more than fair. That was over this trip and she has plenty of pace with more to come.

Timefall ran well in a big sales race at Donny two weeks ago when finishing strongly. Her stamina will be an asset in the conditions.

Naina has won three of her past four runs including on the July course here last month. A 6lb rise for scoring at Yarmouth last time means she’ll have to dig out a bit more.

Magic Love takes on stronger opposition but was impressive enough when winning over this trip at Thirsk last week. That was just her fourth run so there should be more to come.

Harmonia saw out a mile to strike on Town Moor last time. She had enough pace to strike over this distance at Thirsk last month and is another to consider.

1.50

WIMBLEDON HAWKEYE looked to be crying out for this trip when finishing an excellent second in the Acomb Stakes at York last time.

That was over a furlong shorter but he battled right to the line to build on his good third in the Superlative Stakes on the July course here. There’s more to come and he’ll be hard to beat.

Luther is the obvious threat after landing a Haydock Listed contest without breaking sweat. This son of Frankel saw out the mile strongly and looks a nice prospect for Charlie Fellowes.

Angelo Buonarroti saw off a big field when taking a York maiden last month.

The fact that connections threw him into the Coventry Stakes on debut shows how trainer Ralph Beckett rates him and this longer trip should be fine.

Puppet Master comes over for Aidan O’Brien after winning on soft ground at Galway last time. He pulled well clear from his rivals and should improve for that promising second run.

Royal Playwright was far from disgraced when third in the Solario Stakes at Sandown and is another who should show more for stepping up in trip.

Law Of Design is another who caught the eye when winning at Ascot latest.

2.25

BABOUCHE put the classy Whistlejacket in his place when blazing home to take the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at The Curragh last time.

That was some effort against the colts and built nicely on her Group 3 victory in July.

This six-furlong trip looks ideal and the only doubt is the ground as this is much the softest she’s faced so far.

Trainer Ger Lyons has been making some very positive noises and she can take another step forward.

Lake Victoria is a Frankel filly with a bright future after taking Group 1 honours here 13 days ago.

She had a fair bit in hand when taking that Moyglare Stud Stakes and it’s interesting to see Aidan O’Brien dropping her back in trip here. She should have enough pace to be competitive again.

Leovanni could be a big price if finding the form that saw her take the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot.

She was a respectable third in the Lowther at York latest. She is proven over this trip and can hit the frame.

Rayevka didn’t have a lot to beat when winning at Chantilly but is a well bred filly who isn’t over from her French yard for a day out.

3.00

WHISTLEJACKET should be too hot for these rivals as he bids for a second Group 1 win.

The Aidan O’Brien flyer struck in the highest class at Deauville last time when going from the front and holding on with someting left in the tank.

He has done his best work over this trip and goes on any ground. He was a winner on the July course earlier this season so the track should hold no fears.

Shadow Of Light was a good second in the Gimcrack at York latest and has plenty of pace over this trip.

That was his first run at Group level and he looked well up to it. He also has to prove a liking for softer conditions but is a nice prospect.

Ides Of March is the Ballydoyle No2 on jockey bookings but clocked a good time when scoring on The Curragh so can’t be ruled out over an ideal trip.

3.40

JAMES MCHENRY is an improving handicapper who should enjoy this challenge.

He kicked off this season winning up Carlisle’s hill before holding his own in good company including when hampered at York last time.

He has scored on soft ground and trainer Ed Bethell is having another excellent season. He looks a big price to at least make the frame.

Bopedro was third in this last year and is back with a big chance off a 9lb lower mark.

He’s one of a few chances trainer David O’Meara has in the race and came back to form when second at Doncaster two Saturdays ago. He goes on any ground and looks solid each-way.

Godwinson managed to win at Goodwood last time despite hanging on the tricky track. A 4lb rise in the weights gives him another chance for William Haggas.

This Songisforyou has been well backed and wouldn’t be the first gamble landed by trainer Emmet Mullins.

He had a bit in the tank when winning at The Curragh latest and is threatening under a penalty.

Roi De France has an obvious chance for the Gosdens who do well in this race. He needed a stronger gallop when second on handicap debut at Yarmouth and will be threatening if handling this softer ground.

Theoryofeverything battled to score at Ascot latest and likes this going. He’s an each-way player.

Norwalk Havoc will like these conditions and ran well at Galway last time.

4.15

WILD ANGEL shaped well when third on debut at Kempton despite a draw that kept her wide throughout the race.

She wasn’t helped by being hampered either and should come on plenty for the experience.

Saqqara Sands is another who didn’t get the clearest of runs first time out at Wolverhampton. Despite that she came home strongly and would have won with more luck. It won’t be long before she gets off the mark.
Texas Starlight comes from a yard that can get a newcomer ready on debut. She is bred to want a bit further but could be dangerous.

Roger Varian has won two of the past three runnings of this so watch for a market move about his Glamorous Marlene first time out.

Season Of Light is another well-bred Godolphin runner but she’s the second string on jockey bookings.

Digub was an expensive purchase but is a Sea The Stars filly so is likely to need further to shine for William Haggas.

4.45

FIFTY NIFTY enjoyed dropping back to this trip when winning on the July course here last time.

He showed good pace and came with a late rattle to win with something in hand.

That was just his fourth run so he is more than capable of improving past a 6lb rise in the weights for in-form trainer Tom Clover.

Telemark was a hero over this distance at Doncaster a fortnight ago. He likes some give in the ground and should be right on the premises again.

Mission To Moon was fourth in the Britannia at Royal Ascot and ran close to that level when fourth at the same track last time.

He didn’t get the run of the race there and has had a little nudge down the weights.

Granger Bay is best on soft ground and had six lengths to spare when scoring at Ascot earlier this month. A 15lb hike in the weights for that looks a bit harsh but he should have a lot more to come.

Yorkshire is consistent and was a bit unlucky when second at Haydock last time.

HAYDOCK

1.30

SKIPPER has been in top form on the all-weather and will take lots of stopping if translating that to turf.

He was well on top at Chelmsford last time and ran well at Newmarket on his first two runs. He looks on a fair mark with trainer Tom Clover in decent form.

Whiskey Pete has been knocking on the door and went close in solid company at Ascot last time. He likes it soft and won’t be far away.

Dashing Darcey won on his last visit here and is fresh having been off the track since June. All ground comes the same and he’s a danger despite being 6lb higher.

Rhoscolyn would love more rain as he scored in the mud at Goodwood earlier this week. He’s dangerous under a 5lb penalty with trainer David O’Meara firing in plenty of winners.

3.15

BLUE STORM enjoyed some give in the ground when winning a hot handicap at Epsom on Derby day and he went close in another massive field at Royal Ascot over this trip.

He looked in need of the run after a break in a Beverley Listed race last month and still looks fairly handicapped.

Wiltshire clocked a fast time when winning on the all-weather at Newcastle latest and is dangerous dropped in trip by William Haggas.

Never Dark has been out of form but won this race last year from 4lb higher and likes soft ground. He needs his best but could nick a place.

Silky Wilkie was a good second in the Ayr Gold Cup last week and has run well here before.

He has to be a threat again while Jer Batt likes it here and is best over this distance.
