BBC quiz show with A-list host handed 100 brand new episodes amid ratings success and NTA nomination
RICHARD Osman has revealed 100 new episodes of his hit quiz show House of Games are on the way as series 8 hits screens.
The new series comes amid the show’s huge ratings success and its 2024 National Television Award nomination.
The celebrated TV host confirmed the return of the 100-episode series on X, formerly Twitter, yesterday.
“The brand-new series of House Of Games starts this week. 100 new episodes coming your way,” he wrote before introducing the celebrities for the week,
“We start with Vogue Williams, Michaela Strachan, Amir Shah and Dr. Xand! See you all at 6!” Richard, 53, added.
The popular BBC Two quiz show had been airing repeat episodes since March but returned to screens for the first episode of the series last night.
House of Games fans immediately replied to the tweet to share their delight, with one writing: “Yay! It’s been missed in our house!”
“Excellent! We’d got fed up of the repeats, and stopped recording it. Great to have some new material to watch! Welcome back!” commented another.
A third praised: “Best show on the box. Long may it continue.”
“So good to have you back. A great season opener,” said another praising last night’s episode.
Every day this week, celebrity contestants test their general knowledge as they take on a series of quiz rounds selected by the host, quiz legend Richard.
The show is played on a weekly basis, with four celebrities playing on five consecutive days to win daily prizes.
A daily winner is declared following a quick-fire round at the end of each show, and the scores are tallied across the week, resulting in an overall champion being crowned on Friday.
Points are accrued depending on where each celebrity finishes on each day and the points are doubled on Friday’s show.
Series 8 premiered on House of Games‘ usually 6pm slot on BBC Two continues at the same time throughout the week.
The show’s popularity is evidenced by its ratings and its NTA nomination earlier this year.

- Who Wants To Be A Millionaire – Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the “worst” question in the show’s history. Host Jeremy Clarkson asked: “From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?” The multiple choice answers were between G, K, M and W. In the end, and with the £32,000 safe, player Glen had to make a guess and went for G. It turned out to be correct as Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the Best Actress gong since 2000.
- The 1% Club – Viewers of Lee Mack’s popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. The query went as follows: “Edna’s birthday is on the 6th of April and Jen’s birthday falls on the 15th of October, therefore Amir’s birthday must be the ‘X’ of January.” It turns out the conundrum links the numbers with its position in the sentence, so 6th is the sixth word and 15th is the fifteenth word. Therefore, Amir’s birthday is January 24th, corresponding to the 24th word in the sentence.
- The Chase – The ITV daytime favourite left fans scratching their heads when it threw up one of the most bizarre questions to ever grace the programme. One of the questions asked the player: “Someone with a nightshade intolerance should avoid eating what?” The options were – sweetcorn, potatoes, carrots – with Steve selecting sweetcorn but the correct answer was potatoes.
House of Games was nominated in the Quiz Game Show category, although the award ultimately went to The 1% Club.
House of Games airs Monday to Friday at 6pm on BBC Two.
