Granville's historic Buxton Inn on the market for $1.9 million
GRANVILLE, Ohio (WCMH) -- The Buxton Inn, a 212-year-old central Ohio venue where several celebrities and U.S. presidents have stayed, is now on the market with an asking price of nearly $2 million.
Made up of five buildings totaling 10,000 square feet, the inn at 313 Broadway E. in Granville will cost $1,950,000 to buy, according to a listing by Lisa McKivergin with Re/Max Town Center. Built in 1812, the listing boasts the inn as "a once in a lifetime opportunity of meaningful creativity for [the buyer] to harness."
"Saturated in history, the historic Buxton Inn can become your home, business and creative adventure," McKivergin's listing states. "In the 212 years of operation, the guests have included three U.S. Presidents: Lincoln, Harrison and McKinley. Additionally, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Garner, Henry Ford, and Yo-Yo Ma have stayed under its roof."
The listing notes that the property is zoned for use as a hotel, restaurant, event space, art gallery, specialty retail, medical clinic, spa, fitness center or religious space. Currently, the five buildings make up 25 guest rooms and The Tavern, a cocktail bar that was once part of the Underground Railroad and a sleeping space for stagecoach drivers.
The Buxton underwent a several-month renovation in late 2022, after a fire destroyed its kitchen and caused damage throughout the rest of the more than 200-year-old inn and tavern. That included broken doors, water damage in the wine cellar, gas leaks, and smoke and soot damage.
On the morning of the fire, which was later determined to be an accident that stemmed from an electrical issue, the Granville Fire Department responded and extinguished it in less than two hours. Owner Bob Schilling told NBC4 then that two guests were in the hotel, but no one was in the kitchen, where it started and was contained.
Since the resulting months-long closure, the inn renovated several of its guest rooms and 14 of the rooms’ bathrooms, added new furniture to them and the restaurant, and redid walls throughout.
