‘Is this a joke?’ Zara fans horrified after spotting ‘medieval’ collection that’s giving ‘Dobby the House Elf’ vibes
ARE you a Harry Potter fan? Well, it’s worth popping down to the local Zara shop.
The Spanish fast fashion giant has left shoppers into hysterics with their new crinkled collection that’s sure to be a hit amongst those who can’t be bothered to iron their clothes.
From a textured crew neck sweatshirt to a crinkled mini dress, Zara have added numerous new garments to their ever-growing collection that are full of creases.
But whilst some fashion-forward shoppers may think of these as a statement piece, the rather bizarre range has gone viral on TikTok – for all the wrong reasons.
Recently one customer, who goes by @alieninmiami, took to the popular social media site after spotting the creased goods at a branch.
Although the shopper was too stunned to say much, she did compare the crinkled aesthetic to Dobby the House Elf, from the Harry Potter saga.
Using hashtags #dobby and #dobbyisfree, the Zara shopper was in total shock at what she had stumbled across and demanded answers.
”What is this?” she wondered in the caption of the now-viral video which has racked up a staggering 3million views in just two days.
Just as taken aback by the unusual look, thousands of disgusted TikTok users flocked to comments to share their thoughts – and best jokes.
One chuckled, revealing that this would be their mother’s worst nightmare.
”My mum would go insane.”
Another wondered: ”Why is it medieval?”
”Serving fitted sheet that I was too lazy to fold,” chimed in a third who thought the garment was better suited for the bedroom.
”Is this a joke,” a gobsmacked viewer refused to believe the unusual discovery.
”Is this an archive from the 1800s or something?” someone else joked.
This is not the first time the high street favourite has left shoppers stunned – recently, fashionistas were in stitches after the retailer launched a Shrek-inspired range.
Why is Zara so popular?
Zara was founded in 1975 in Spain, and the first UK store was opened in 1998. It remains as one of the most popular stores on the high street, but why?
Rather than producing more quantities of a style, it is said Zara focuses on producing more styles.
Some stats suggest Zara releases 24 trend-led collections every year, 500 designs a week and almost 20,000 per year. Other estimates put its production levels at 450 million garments a year.
Even if a style sells out very quickly, there are new styles waiting to take up the space. This means more choices and higher chance of getting it right with the consumer.
Zara only allows its designs to remain on the shop floor for three to four weeks, and this pushes the consumer to keep visiting the store or website, because if they were just a week late, the clothes of a particular style or trend would be sold out and replaced with a new trend.
At the same time, this constant refreshing of the lines and styles carried by its stores also entices customers to visit its shops more frequently.

Priced at £25.99, the high street buy is easy to throw on on days when you’re after a comfy ensemble – or simply want to look like Shrek, as modelled by one customer, Georgie, on TikTok.
Posing with the white T-shirt/khaki vest two-piece, the young woman did the iconic Shrek roar inside the changing rooms, as her pal was recording her.
”Shreksy,” Georgie wrote in the caption of the viral clip, which has won her a whopping 1.6million views.
