Match Preview – Queen’s Park B vs Hamilton Academical Reserves
Queen’s Park’s B Team kick-off their SPFL Reserve League Cup campaign with a home game against Hamilton Academical on Tuesday afternoon.
For some of the players in Sean Crighton’s squad it will be a third game in a third different competition however there should be no change in their approach according to the B Team Head Coach.
Sean explained: “It is the way the fixtures have worked out in that this one is coming after a City of Glasgow Cup tie against Partick Thistle and then a League game against Kilmarnock Reserves.”
“As a management team we take it game by game and the approach from the players should be the same. They should be looking to play well and get into the First Team manager’s thoughts for the weekend.”
Despite Queen’s and Hamilton meeting in an under-18 game on Friday and Crighton spending several seasons coaching at the Accies, before moving to The Spiders this summer, it will still be a trip into the unknown.
Sean explained: “Most of our games will be against unknown line-ups but we cannot worry about that, we will worry about ourselves.”
“Hamilton could field their youngsters who played well a few days ago or bring in some first team players who perhaps were not fully involved at Raith Rovers on Saturday.”
The young Black and White players will compete in Group 3 against Hamilton, Hibernian and Livingston and will look to go better than last season with Sean saying: “Queen’s Park B won their league last season but never made it out of the Group stages in this competition. It would be great to do better, as you want to win every competition you go into, however sometimes it is not about the end result.”
“The focus is on players learning and performing. We played well in game against Kilmarnock and should be looking to build on that.”
A new striker could be added to the squad before kick-off with Sean adding: “It looks like a move could be over the line and I will have an extra option available.”
