Trump-loving sheriff booted off election security duties after incendiary anti-Harris post
Portage County, Ohio Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski caused an uproar earlier this month when he posted on Facebook that his supporters should "write down" the addresses of local residents in the county who had signs supporting Vice President Kamala Harris on their lawns.
Now The Daily Beast reports that Zuchowski's department has been stripped of its election security duties after multiple residents expressed discomfort with giving him any oversight role in the upcoming presidential election.
The move to boot Zuchowski and his department out of election security duties came Friday when the local Portage County elections board voted to remove it in a 3-1 vote.
Randi Clites, the county board of elections chair and a Democrat, said she believed that removing the department from overseeing the voting process was necessary to ensure no voter felt intimidated at the polls.

“While it is not my responsibility to weigh in on the sheriff’s comments directly, I feel strongly it is in my responsibility to make sure I do what is in my authority to make sure every voter in Portage County feels safe casting their ballot for any candidate they choose,” she said.
“I believe walking into a voting location where a sheriff deputy can be seen may discourage voters from entering.”
Zuchowski's incendiary post told supporters to "write down" the addresses of people who put Harris-Walz signs in their front lawns so that he could drop off any undocumented immigrants at their residences.
"When people ask me... What's gonna happen if the Flip - Flopping, Laughing Hyena Wins??" Zuchowski, who took office in 2021, wrote on Facebook. "I say... write down all the addresses of the people who had her signs in their yards! Sooo... when the Illegal human 'Locust' (which she supports!) Need places to live...We'll already have the addresses of their New families...who supported their arrival!"
Although Donald Trump won Portage County in 2020, recent election data suggests that there are tens of thousands of likely Harris voters living there.
According to the county's official tally, Trump received 45,990 votes in the county, while President Joe Biden received 35,661 votes there.
