Pundit names the signing Spurs should make to help Maddison in midfield
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager, Tim Sherwood, believes Spurs and Maddison would be performing better had they landed long-report transfer target, Eberechi Eze, this summer.
Eze reportedly reached a gentleman’s agreement with Spurs
The scintillating form of Eberechi Eze for Crystal Palace last season made the England international a subject of interest to both Tottenham and Manchester City last summer with the midfielder reported to have a £60 million release clause. (The Sun)
Eze remained a Crystal Palace player after no club met the creative midfielder’s release clause in the summer, although Football Transfers claim Eze reached a gentleman’s agreement with Tottenham.
Spurs have started the season slowly, struggling to create chances and find the back of the net consistently in their opening four Premier League games, an issue that Eze, who recorded eleven goals and four assists last campaign, could have fixed. (TransferMarkt)
How could Eze have made a difference?
Former Tottenham manager, Tim Sherwood, told Premier League Productions that he believes Eze would have been ideal for Tottenham’s midfield – a midfield that is currently struggling to create or convert.
He said: “Someone like Eze would’ve been a perfect signing for me if they were to buy him. He would’ve been out there assisting Maddison, they need more guile in there, I don’t think Kulusevski is doing enough.”
Eze has continued to shine for Palace despite not securing a summer move, netting three goals and providing two assists in his opening six games of the season, while Kulusevski and Maddison have only three assists between them.
Spurs Web opinion
Whilst Eze would have obviously been an incredible signing for Tottenham that could have shaken up Postecoglou’s midfield or attack, which is currently looking frustrated and void of creativity, I disagree with Sherwood’s point on Kulusevski.
In what has been a pretty lacklustre start to the season, Dejan Kulusevski has been a constant livewire in Spurs’ team with the Swede, in my opinion, arguably being one of Tottenham’s best players so far and should Spurs have signed Eze he would likely be starting ahead of Maddison instead.
