What's being built at this site near Grandview Heights?
GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio (WCMH) -- On the border of Grandview Heights, the framework for two apartment buildings is going up.
Wooden structures that appear to form the outline of townhomes are taking shape at 1095 W. 3rd Ave., with concrete pits forming as the basis for an additional building directly in front of them. Franklin County Auditor records tie the project to Roby Development, who acquired the property for $420,000 in 2021 from Burnes Properties. Roby's website advertises that it handles planning and approval processes for residential and commercial construction, as well as development.
The project, within Columbus' Fifth By Northwest neighborhood, sits just a block away from Grandview Heights' border. NBC4 obtained compliance schematics that Roby submitted to the Columbus Department of Building and Zoning Services, which showed the developer intends the northern structure to contain four three and four-bedroom units, while the southern structure will contain five three-bedroom units.
One portion of the document describes the buildings as hosting apartments, while the blueprint itself calls them townhomes. The Fifth By Northwest Area Commission also shared a council variance application from Roby, which called the project the "West Third Townhomes."
Roby Development did not respond to emailed requests for comment about the project. But the company's structure in progress conveniently borders offices for the company, which also finished construction recently. Roby Development bought that second property in 2021 for $630,000. The previous owner, Lisle Frank B&, acquired it for $27,500 in 1986, according to Franklin County Auditor records.
