Crowley Police looking for suspects in two shootings on the same street Wednesday
CROWLEY, La. (KLFY) -- Crowley Police are looking for suspects in two separate shootings blocks apart on the same street in the city Wednesday night, authorities said.
Crowley Police Chief Troy Hebert said the first victim is an elderly woman who was shot while standing on her front porch in the 300 block of Jacobs Avenue at approximately 8 p.m. The unidentified woman was taken to a Lafayette hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to her left shoulder.
Officials said preliminary investigation suggests the shooting may have been a targeted attack aimed at the victim's grandson.
Then, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Crowley Police responded to a call from a local hospital in reference to a male patient who had reported to the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his back.
The victim told police he was travelling north on Jacobs Avenue. Upon nearing a bridge in the 800 block, the victim, his wife, their child and a family friend in the car were ambushed by a group of unknown male subjects. The victim said in attempting to elude these subjects he felt what he believed to be a bullet hit him in the back.
The victim then drove himself to the hospital, where he was treated for a minor gunshot wound.
Police investigators at the scene were able to collect 23 freshly spent ammunition casings from 9mm and 5.56mm ammunition, authorities said.
The Crowley Police Department asks anyone with information on these two shootings to contact the department at 337-783-1234.
