Postecoglou says he works like he will be at Tottenham Hotspur ‘forever’
Tottenham Hotspur switch their attention back to the Premier League tomorrow when they face Brentford, but Ange Postecoglou is looking a lot further ahead.
Spurs face a tough test against Brentford in the Premier League
Tottenham’s indifferent start to the season continued on Wednesday evening when they came from behind to beat Coventry City 2-1 in the Carabao Cup with two late goals from Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson.
Having failed to beat Arsenal and Newcastle United along with dropping two points at Leicester City, Tottenham are desperately in need of a win against the Bees to move up from their lowly thirteenth position in the Premier League table heading into this weekend.
This afternoon, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has this afternoon been speaking to the media at Hotspur Way to share his thoughts ahead of the fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Ange acts like he will be at Spurs forever
Postecoglou told journalists that although he knows he will not be at Tottenham forever, he acts as though he will be in order to make the best decisions for the club.
When asked about being the first Spurs manager to last a full season in half a decade, Postecoglou said (Football London): “Yeah, they had a cake for me. I know I will not be here forever but I work like I will be.
“Every decision I make is made off that backdrop. If you get caught in timeline scenarios, you make results that short-term might feel good, but long term you will not get to where you want.”
Tottenham need to be clinical in attacking phases and tougher at the back
Tottenham need to get their act together in attacking phases of the game, they have no issue in advancing up the pitch, but it seems to come to a standstill near the opposition area.
Summer signing Dominic Solanke needs better service from out wide if he is to start to justify his price tag, however, at the moment the blame has to be shared among those around him.
Brentford are likely to look to put the pressure on Guglielmo Vicario from set pieces, with the goalkeeper still reluctant to look to claim the ball when in the air and under pressure.
Spurs assistant coach Nick Montgomery has taken up the responsibility of managing set pieces and will be hoping that Vicario’s flapping, along with Cristian Romero’s poor positioning for the Arsenal goal is an isolated incident
