Djed Spence opens up on working his way back into the Spurs project
Djed Spence admits that his first goal for Tottenham meant a lot to him and he is just happy to be a part of part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans.
Djed Spence redemption
Ahead of the summer, many would have expected Spence to be one of the first players to leave the club, particularly given that Postecoglou had shipped him out on loan as soon as he arrived through the door last summer.
However, the 24-year-old managed to win over the Australian and his coaching staff this summer and rescue his Tottenham career.
The Englishman impressed in pre-season despite playing out of his favoured right-back position and he has done the same at the start of this campaign.
Spence would have been disappointed to have been left out of Tottenham’s Europa League squad, but he responded in perfect fashion, finding the back of the net for the North Londoners in their 2-1 win over Coventry City on Wednesday.
The defender, who replaced Destiny Udogie at left-back at the interval, started and finished off the move for Spurs’ equaliser on 88 minutes, with the Lilywhites eventually going on to score the winner in stoppage time through Brennan Jonhson.

When asked about his first goal for the club, Spence told the club’s official website: “It meant a lot. It was a good feeling – especially to get the team back in the game and then the win.
“So, yes, the goal meant a lot. The manager said just to be ready (before I came on), that was it really. Change the game and hopefully get the win.
“I’m happy to be in the plans. I’m happy to keep moving forward with the team. Hopefully, we keep winning and we can go on from there. I’m looking forward. I’ve just got to stay ready and be ready for whenever I’m called upon, like today.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Spence has not let Ange down whenever he has got an opportunity at the start of the season and one would expect the former Middlesbrough man to get plenty of minutes over the next few months as matches come thick and fast for Tottenham.
