Per an earlier report, the reboot would have depicted a “new team of tenacious detectives who investigate cold cases across the Southwest.”
Reflecting the passage of time, it would have also taken place 15 years after the original finale.
Cold Case followed a fictitious division of Philadelphia’s police department.
The team specialised in investigating unsolved cases – or “cold cases”, hence the title.
Kathryn Morris starred as dedicated homicide detective Lilly Rush, who becomes the lead detective of the Cold Case division.
After the show ended, Kathryn later appeared in short-lived sci-fi drama Reverie.
Meanwhile, Danny Pino portrayed Scotty Valens, Lilly’s detective partner.
After Cold Case, the actor took on another police role as Nick Amaro on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
Later, he starred as drug cartel leader Miguel Galindo in Sons of Anarchy spin-off Mayans M.C..
Joining Kathryn and Danny in the ensemble were John Finn, Jeremy Ratchford, Thom Barry and Tracie Thoms.
Fans of Grey’s Anatomy may be surprised to learn that Justin Chambers starred in season one of Cold Case.
Better known as Dr Alex Karev, the 54-year-old played the role of Chris Lassing, Lilly’s original policing partner.
Meredith Stiehm, who created Cold Case, was also the creator of acclaimed FX drama The Bridge.
This thriller series followed the joint efforts of two detectives – one of whom is from the US, the other Mexican – to capture a serial killer operating in both countries.
Based on a Scandinavian series of the same name, The Bridge aired for two seasons.
