Six flogged in Sar-e-Pul for alleged offenses
The Supreme Court of the Taliban has announced that six individuals have been whipped in public for “illicit relations” and “adultery” in the province of Sar-e Pol.
On Thursday, September 19, the court released a statement indicating that this punishment was carried out in the “Balkhab” district of Sar-e Pol.
The statement mentioned that the individuals received between 29 and 39 lashes and were sentenced to one to three years of enforced imprisonment.
Details regarding the identities of these individuals have not been provided. Previously, the Supreme Court of the Taliban announced the implementation of corporal punishment on three individuals, including one woman, in Faryab province.
It is noteworthy that since the government regained control over Afghanistan, there have been multiple instances of public lashings of accused individuals.
At the same time, the enforcement of retributive and corporal punishment has faced criticism from human rights organizations and the international community.
The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan is exacerbated by the oppressive policies of the current regime, which prioritize punitive measures over the well-being of citizens.
Such actions not only violate fundamental human rights but also foster an environment of fear and repression. The international community must recognize the urgency of addressing these violations and work towards supporting the Afghan people in their pursuit of dignity, freedom, and justice.
