Dev Squad Report: Hibs 1 Livingston 1
The Hibs Dev Squad began their Reserve Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Livingston Reserves.
With it being a cup match, the match went straight to penalties with the Hibees claiming the extra point with a 3-1 win in the shootout.
Guillaume Beuzelin named a strong side to face the Lions with a good blend of U18s and several First Team players who have received limited game time this season. That included the likes of Jake Doyle-Hayes, Luke Amos, Max Boruc and Nohan Kenneh.
Luke Amos was the first to test the Livingston ‘keeper, reacting sharply to tackle and a Livingston defender before forcing a smart save. From the resulting corner, an effort was cleared off the line as we looked for an early opener.
Malik Zaid was next to go close, fizzing a free-kick just wide of the right-hand post midway through the first half.
It was the visitors who took the lead however, just before the break, with a clever counter attack – finished off with a calm left-footed finish.
But it didn’t take long to get back on level terms when a well-work freekick unlocked the Livingston defence. Jake Doyle-Hayes played a clever reverse pass into Malik Zaid who applied an excellent first-time finish across the goalkeeper to level things up.
Both sides went searching for a winner in the final half hour with Dean Cleland striking the post in what was the closest either team could get to a winning goal.
With it being a Reserve Cup match, both teams claimed one point – with the extra point determined by the result of a penalty shootout.
Malik Zaid, Luke Davidson and Jacob MacIntyre were all on target in the shootout as the Hibees ran out 3-2 winners on penalties.
