Trump vs. the Left’s Incitement to Violence
And then it happened again.
The New York Post — and it’s not alone — has nailed the problem exactly. The Post’s headline:
How Democrats relentlessly dialed up violent rhetoric against Trump before assassination attempt — comparing him to Hitler
Then there was the lefty New Republic. In June of this year, the New Republic ran this cover portrait of the former president of the United States as, you guessed it, Adolf Hitler. The caption under the Hitler-mustached portrait of Trump:
American Fascism
What It Would Look Like
Then there was this headline from CNN:
Top House Democrats compare Trump’s rise to Hitler’s
Not to be forgotten was this from no less than the current president of the United States, Joe Biden:
Biden compares ‘sick’ Trump to Nazis in 2024 campaign launch
The story reported this, bold print for emphasis supplied:
Blue Bell (United States) (AFP) – US President Joe Biden launched his harshest attack yet on Donald Trump as he kickstarted his 2024 reelection campaign Friday, accusing the Republican of echoing Nazi Germany and posing a threat to democracy.
As seen in that last story, along with being accused of being Hitler, the Left repeatedly accuses Trump of being “a threat to democracy.” There are plenty more examples of the “Trump is a threat to democracy” craziness out there. Samples?
The BBC: Joe Biden says Trump ideology threatens US democracy.
The Nation: Trump Is As Gullible as He Is a Threat to Democracy
New York magazine: “Donald Trump Is a Threat to Democracy, and Saying So Is Not Incitement”
Then there was this after the July assassination attempt in which Trump was shot:
Vox: Yes, it’s still fair to call Trump a threat to democracy
There’s more like these samples — oh so very much more.
But one sad fact is vividly in evidence. Democrats and the leftist media have spent months accusing a former president of the United States, a Republican carrying the banner of the Republican Party — the party of Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Eisenhower, and Reagan — of being another Hitler and a threat to democracy.
Is it any wonder that this past Sunday brought the news bulletin that for the second time in a matter of three months, former President Donald Trump was targeted by a would-be assassin? This time around, a decidedly alert Secret Service agent found the assassin’s lair, fired four shots, and sent one Ryan Wesley Routh on the run, with Routh being chased and finally captured.
And as the news of just who Routh is came forth, there was this all-too-typical news from Reuters:
Ryan Routh: What we know about suspect in Trump assassination attempt
Earlier this year, Routh tagged Biden in a post on X: “@POTUS Your campaign should be called something like KADAF. Keep America democratic and free. Trumps should be MASA … make Americans slaves again master. DEMOCRACY is on the ballot and we cannot lose.
In short, after being barraged with volumes of media in which both the media and Democrats all over the spectrum (is there a difference?) — and including President Biden — either accused Trump of being the new Hitler or, as in the case of Biden and others, a threat to democracy.
Now, for the second time in three months, a would-be, decidedly incited assassin has taken it upon himself to try to assassinate Trump.
Which brings us back to one of those headlines cited above. This one:
“Donald Trump Is a Threat to Democracy, and Saying So Is Not Incitement”
In fact, it is incitement.
All of which is to say, after endless comparisons to Hitler and descriptions of Trump as a threat to democracy, there are those screw-loose crazies — two so far — that have in fact been incited to violence.
That would be incited to violence by the leftist media and their Democrat allies.
Is it wrong? Yes.
Even more to the point, it is self-evidently dangerous.
And not to put too fine a point on it, after two assassination attempts, the Secret Service, a thoroughly honorable organization, needs to do better.
And get the resources it needs to do better.
